Soulful Sundays: 💌 Yoga - a state to be aspired to
In the Pātañjalayogaśāstra, yoga is defined first and foremost as a state to be aspired to - before any methods for attaining that state are described. Yoga, in this understanding, is not only the practices themselves, but the residue of those practices: what remains when integration has taken place.
This raises an important question for all of us who practise and teach:
How do we create the conditions that allow the state of yoga to occur?
In many entry-level trainings, questions of what yoga is - and the philosophical ideas that underpin it, are often approached through fragmented study, brief textual extracts, or isolated techniques.
While these can be valuable, they can also leave little space to explore yoga through a lens of integration.
What happens when we move beyond compartmentalised learning and begin to ask:
What is the state of yoga?
And what are the means of attaining this state?
At Yogacampus, this enquiry invites us to consider Yoga as something lived and embodied, explored through philosophy, contemporary scientific perspectives on physical and mental wellbeing, and our own experience of practice and teaching.
Being a yoga teacher, in this view, is not only about instruction, but about teaching in ways that support integration and create the conditions for yoga to happen.
It is for this reason that we work with a collective of experienced, international educators, each bringing their own specialist understanding to support a shared enquiry into the state of yoga. We are so proud of our international teaching team and our faculty in our new Advanced Teacher Pathway (includes individual courses as well as our new 300hr Advanced Teacher Training).
