Here’s a message from Helen O’Brein, ARCH registered colon hydrotherapist The Complete Health Clinic sharing some tips on small changes that can make a big impact.

Small changes. Big impact.

Reducing or stopping alcohol use is one of the most effective ways to support your long-term health. Some alcohol-related harm, such as inflammation in the digestive tract, alcoholic hepatitis, or early liver scarring can actually be reversible.

Reducing your intake now can also help prevent damage that isn’t reversible.

Even small, sustainable steps can make a real difference:
🔸Plan alcohol-free days each week
🔸Alternate alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic options
🔸Feel confident saying no, there are excellent alcohol-free alternatives available

Taking steps to reduce alcohol is a meaningful investment in your health and wellbeing. It’s always a positive choice to consider.

🌿 Your Liver: The Body’s Detox Powerhouse! 🌿

Did you know that your liver is one of the hardest-working organs in your body?

It plays a crucial role in digestion, detoxification, and overall wellness. It’s responsible for breaking down fats, storing nutrients, and filtering toxins from your bloodstream. In fact, it’s like your body’s natural filtration system, keeping everything in check so you can feel your best. 💪

Here are just a few of the important functions your liver performs every day:

• Detoxifies the body by breaking down toxins and waste products.

• Processes nutrients from the foods you eat to provide energy and support your organs.

• Stores essential vitamins and minerals, like vitamin A, D, and B12.

• Helps with digestion by producing bile, which breaks down fats for absorption.

But just like any powerhouse, the liver needs support to keep running smoothly. Here’s how you can help keep your liver in top shape:

1. Eat a Balanced Diet: Focus on whole, nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains to give your liver the nutrients it needs to function.

2. Drink Plenty of Water: Staying hydrated helps your liver flush out toxins and supports digestion. Aim for at least 8 glasses a day!

3. Moderate Alcohol Consumption: Excessive alcohol puts a strain on the liver and can lead to long-term damage. Keep it in check by drinking in moderation or avoiding it altogether.

4. Maintain Healthy Bowel Movements: Regular bowel movements help eliminate waste from your body, which in turn supports your liver in its detoxification process.

By caring for your liver, you’re helping your body perform at its best. 🌱 Take small steps every day to support this vital organ, and you’ll see big improvements in your overall health.

Remember, a healthy liver = a healthy you! ✨

7th -13th of July - Alcohol Awareness Week

This week, we’re honoured to share a very personal message from Jane Bush Gedling Colonics, an ARCH registered colon hydrotherapist based in Nottingham.

Jane speaks candidly about losing her husband to bowel cancer, and the role alcohol may have played in his diagnosis.

She hopes her story will gently remind us all to be mindful of how much we drink and its impact on our digestive health, from mouth and throat to the colon.

Jane’s experience fuels her passion for raising awareness and supporting others in making informed choices about their health.

Please take a moment to watch and reflect.

Here at ARCH, the Association of Colon Hydrotherapists, we are running a short campaign to increase awareness about the importance of self-care and moderation when it comes to alcohol consumption.

It’s a conversation that our therapist have often with clients, highlighting how alcohol impacts not only overall health and well-being, but especially the digestive system.

Our knowledgeable members are colon hydrotherapists who are also nutritionists, naturopaths, nurses, doctors, health coaches, and holistic therapists.

Many will be sharing tips to help you make informed choices. We invite you to join the conversation, share your own experiences, or ask questions in the comments.

During this Alcohol Awareness Week, let’s take the opportunity to pause and reflect on our relationship with alcohol and how it truly impacts our body and mind.

Alcohol is a normal part of many social occasions, but it’s important to understand what happens when we drink.

When alcohol enters the body, the liver treats it as a toxin and prioritises breaking it down before anything else.

Over time, regular drinking can damage liver cells, leading to fatty liver, inflammation, and eventually irreversible scarring known as cirrhosis.

Alcohol also affects other aspects of health.
It disrupts the quality of our sleep, making us more likely to wake up during the night and feel unrefreshed. It can initially feel relaxing but often worsens mood and anxiety in the long run.

Because alcohol acts as a diuretic, it increases fluid loss and dehydration, which, combined with its effects on liver processing, can leave us feeling sluggish, foggy, and fatigued.

Taking time this week to reflect doesn’t mean you have to quit completely unless that feels right for you. It is more about being aware of how alcohol really affects you and making conscious choices.

Giving your body even short breaks from drinking can help your liver recover, improve sleep, support your mood, and boost overall well-being. Awareness is the first step toward caring for yourself in a more mindful and healthy way.

Alcohol awareness week, 7th - 13th July

Many of us enjoy alcohol, but it is important to understand some of the negative consequences of drinking, particularly if in excess.

1. It disrupts the microbiome and a healthy microbiome supports good digestion and immune function.

2. It can lead to leaky gut which allows toxins and bacteria to leak into the bloodstream. This can trigger systemic inflammation.

3. It is classed as a depressant, as it slows down brain function and affects the balance of neurotransmitters.

If you do drink, drink responsibly by limiting the amount, hydrating well and if you drink with a meal, it reduces the amount of alcohol in your bloodstream.

It’s Men’s Health Week | 9th–15th June

A time to spotlight the importance of men’s physical and mental well-being, and to encourage all men to take a proactive approach to their health.

Many men may delay seeking support for health concerns, but early, preventative care can make a meaningful difference. One way to begin this journey is through therapies that promote greater body awareness and self-care.

How can colonic hydrotherapy support men’s health?

While not a replacement for medical care, colonic hydrotherapy may offer supportive benefits by helping men tune into their digestive and overall wellness. Some areas where clients have reported feeling positive effects include:

✅ Digestive health and comfort

✅ Liver and detox support

✅ Mood and mental clarity

✅ Encouraging a more health-conscious lifestyle

When used as part of a holistic wellness approach, colonic treatments can be a gentle introduction to self-care and long-term well-being.
