Sometimes motherhood means doing it all without a village.

Late nights, early mornings, two kids, a baby on one arm, laundry on the other, and a mind that never gets a moment to switch off.
But along the way I’ve learned that vulnerability isn’t weakness. It’s a lifeline. It’s how we find each other, how we realise we’re not the only ones struggling, and how we slowly start building the village we don’t have yet.

In my latest blog post, I share what it’s really like to parent while juggling neurodivergence, chronic illness and a household so you know you’re not alone.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, quietly fading, or too tired to hold everything together, this one’s for you. Somehow the hardship brings ease, and a strength and calmness you never knew you had. And even without a village, we find pieces of one in each other.

▫️ He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1948, and he graduated from Humes High School there in 1953.

▫️ He began his singing career with the legendary Sun Records label in Memphis. In late 1955, his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor. By 1956, he was an international sensation. ▫️ Known the world over by his first name, he is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture.

▫️ He died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977. He was 42.

Can you guess which historical figure said this before swiping left?
Clues:
▫️ Born on March 14th, 1879 in Germany, his groundbreaking scientific ideas made him a genius, but he was also famous for his pacifist views and support of the civil rights movement.
▫️ He dropped out of school at 15 and left Germany to avoid state-mandated military service, but before then he was consistently at the top of his class.
▫️ In 1896, he renounced his German citizenship and enrolled at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich. He met Mileva Maric, another trainee physicist originally from Serbia. They married, had two sons after graduating, but a year before, had a daughter named Lieserl. Biographers weren’t aware of her existence until examining his private papers in the late-1980s. Her fate is still unknown.
▫️ In 1905, he published four revolutionary papers that introduced his famous equation E=mc2 and the theory of special relativity.
▫️ His marriage with Mileva Maric broke down in the early 1910s. He moved to Berlin with his cousin Elsa. In 1919, he and Maric divorced. The separation agreement included an annual stipend along with funds he might receive from the Nobel Prize. He later handed over a small fortune upon receiving the award in 1922 for his work on the photoelectric effect. He'd remarried to Elsa, who remained his wife until she died in 1936.
▫️ He published a theory of general relativity in 1915. A solar eclipse in May 1919, provided its test conditions. Arthur Eddington; English astronomer, travelled to West Africa to photograph the eclipse. He confirmed that the sun's gravity deflected light by 1.7 arc-seconds, exactly as predicted.
▫️ He died in 1955 from an abdominal aneurysm. Pathologist Thomas Harvey removed his brain during his autopsy. Studies have been conducted on it since the 1980s. In 1999 a Canadian university published a paper claiming he had unusual folds on his parietal lobe, a part of the brain associated with mathematical and spatial abilities.Source: history.com

The Ramadan Giving Campaign kicked off yesterday, and we’re so grateful for all the support so far! As part of this initiative, Ezelle will be donating 50% of all profits made this month to support a family of orphans in Gaza at the end of Ramadan.

The other incredible brands in our collective will also be contributing, and they’ll be announcing on their social media how much they’ll be donating.

Remember, in Ramadan, the reward for every good deed is multiplied by 70, and charity is one of the most powerful ways to seek blessings and mercy. Let’s come together to help this family rebuild their lives and provide them with the support they desperately need.

Here in the UK, we celebrate Black History Month in October, but since it’s February and BHM is in full swing in the USA, we wanted to share something special!

One of our amazing readers, Emma, discovered our blog through an article we wrote back in 2020 about BLM and accountability (link in bio!) and reached out to us by email with a fantastic resource—a list of Black-owned businesses for our American audience.

Supporting Black-owned businesses isn’t just for one month—it’s an everyday commitment. Check out the list here: link in bio! and show some love to these incredible entrepreneurs!

Huge thanks to Emma for sharing this with us! Got any favourite Black-owned brands? Tag them in the comments! ⬇️✨

Can you guess which pop culture figure said this before swiping left?
Clues:
▫️ He became the first Black athlete to play Major League Baseball in the 20th century when he took the field for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.
▫️ He was born on January 31,1919, in Cairo, Georgia. The youngest of five children, he was raised in relative poverty by a single mother.
▫️ In high school and college, he was an excellent athlete and played four sports: football, basketball, track and baseball. He was named the region's Most Valuable Player in baseball in 1938.
▫️ His older brother, Matthew, inspired him to pursue his talent and love of athletics. Matthew won a silver medal in the 200-meter dash — just behind Jesse Owens — at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
▫️ He continued his education at UCLA where he became the university's first student to win varsity letters in four sports. In 1941, despite his athletic success, Robinson was forced to leave UCLA just shy of graduation due to financial hardship.
▫️ He moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he played football for the semi-professional Honolulu Bears. His season with the Bears was cut short when the United States entered into World War II.
▫️ After his discharge from the Army in 1944, he began to play baseball professionally. At the time, the sport was segregated, and African Americans and white people played in separate leagues.
▫️He met nurse-in-training Rachel Isum when they were both attending UCLA. The couple was married in 1946. As he made his career in the major leagues, the couple faced mounting racism, from insults to death threats. Later in life, both of them became actively involved in the civil rights movement.
▫️They had three children together: Jack, Sharon and David.
▫️In 1971, the couple’s oldest child Jack, died at the age of 24 in a car accident. Their middle child, Sharon, is an author and consultant for Major League Baseball, while their youngest child, David Robinson, is a coffee farmer in Tanzania.Source: biography.com

Can you guess which historical figure said this before swiping left?
Clues:
He was born July 9/10, 1856, in Smiljan, Austrian Empire and died January 7, 1943, New York, U.S. He is a Serbian American inventor and engineer who discovered and patented the rotating magnetic field, the basis of most alternating-current machinery.
He also developed the three-phase system of electric power transmission.
In 1891 he invented the Tesla coil, an induction coil widely used in radio technology.
He attended the Technical University at Graz, Austria, and the University of Prague. At Graz he first saw the Gramme dynamo, which operated as a generator and, when reversed, became an electric motor, and he conceived a way to use alternating current to advantage. At Budapest, he visualized the principle of the rotating magnetic field and developed plans for an induction motor which became his first step toward the successful utilization of alternating current.
In 1882 he worked in Paris for the Continental Edison Company. In 1883, he constructed his first induction motor. He sailed to America in 1884. He first found work with Thomas Edison, but the two inventors were far apart in background and methods, and they separated.
He established his own laboratory. He experimented with shadowgraphs similar to those that later were used by Wilhelm Röntgen when he discovered X-rays in 1895. His experiments included work on a carbon button lamp, and various types of lighting.
From May 1899 until 1900, he made his most important discovery—terrestrial stationary waves. He proved that Earth could be used as a conductor. He also lit 200 lamps without wires from a distance of 40 km and created man-made lightning.
After his death, his diplomas, other honours, letters, and his laboratory notes were inherited by his nephew, and later housed in a Museum named after him in Belgrade. Three Nobel Prize winners made their tribute to “one of the outstanding intellects of the world who paved the way for many of the technological developments of modern times.” Source: britannica.com
