Today in this weeks LE REPOs we pause with Starry Night and the Astronauts (1972) by Alma Thomas. Small, rhythmic dabs of color create a quiet sense of movement, like light across a night sky.
Alma Thomas (1891–1978) was an American painter who, in her seventies, turned to luminous abstraction, creating vibrant fields of color inspired by nature, light, and space exploration. In 1972 she became the first African American woman to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
