Did you know there are supplements you can take to optimise your brain function? 🧠

Of course this is after you’ve set your nutrition foundation.

There are some supplements with good research behind them that show promise.

In this post, I want to focus on two.

1️⃣ Number 1: Alpha GPC 400-600mg in the morning is a phospholipid that provides choline for cell membranes and myelin production. It nourishes the nervous system and therefore supports brain health. In some EU countries, Alpha-GPC is a prescription drug for Alzheimer’s disease. In the US, it’s sold as a supplement for memory.

2️⃣ Number 2: Omega 3 fish oil 1-2g daily may help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Studies in the older population with increased consumption of fish oil and dietary fish was associated with lower rates of Alzheimer’s.

Did you know your gut makes 90% of your serotonin?

Serotonin, often called the happy hormone, plays a huge role in regulating:
➡️ Mood
➡️ Digestion
➡️ Brain function
➡️ Sleep
➡️ Circadian rhythm

But there’s a catch: balance is key.

Here’s what happens when serotonin levels go off-track:

✨ Too much serotonin
You might experience nausea, muscle spasms, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, and even hallucinations - often due to medications that increase serotonin.

✨ Too little serotonin
Symptoms can range from irritability and sadness to poor memory, anxiety, and even digestive issues. Low levels are also linked to conditions like depression and insomnia.

Here’s the fascinating part: your genes and gut health largely determine how well your body produces and detoxifies serotonin.

Factors like vitamin D, iron, magnesium, and zinc are all crucial for serotonin production.

So if you’re feeling down, don’t forget to optimise your nutrition, lifestyle, and gut health!

And always consult your doctor.

Can meditation really change your genes? 🧬

A 2012 study revealed that long-term meditation can influence gene expression, particularly those linked to stress and inflammation.

It’s a fascinating look at how mindfulness might help regulate your body on a deeper level.

While more research is needed, it’s clear meditation is a powerful tool for well-being.

Let’s clear up a few common misconceptions ⬇️

👉 Epigenetics Equals Genetic Mutation
Misconception: Epigenetics is the same as genetic mutations.
Reality: Epigenetics involves changes in gene expression without altering the DNA sequence itself. Unlike mutations, which are permanent changes to the DNA sequence, epigenetic changes can be reversible and affect how genes are turned on or off.

👉Epigenetic Changes Are Permanent
Misconception: Once epigenetic changes occur, they are fixed and cannot be reversed.
Reality: Many epigenetic changes are dynamic and can be influenced by lifestyle, environment, and other factors. This means that epigenetic modifications can be reversed or altered over time.

👉Epigenetics Is Only About Disease
Misconception: Epigenetics is primarily concerned with understanding diseases like cancer.
Reality: While epigenetics plays a significant role in disease, it also encompasses normal physiological processes such as development, aging, and adaptation to environmental changes.

👉Epigenetics Can Fully Override Genetic Predispositions
Misconception: Epigenetics can completely override genetic predispositions and prevent genetic diseases.
Reality: While epigenetics can influence gene expression and potentially reduce the risk of certain diseases, it doesn’t eliminate the underlying genetic predispositions. It works alongside genetic factors to affect health outcomes.

The ‘Night Shift’ setting on your iPhone might not help your sleep as much as you think!

A study by Brigham Young University found no significant difference in sleep quality between people using “Night Shift” and those who don’t.

The real issue? It’s not just blue light—it’s how stimulating screen time is before bed!

To improve sleep, focus on creating a calming bedtime routine, limit screens 30 minutes before bed, and make your room cool, dark, and quiet.

How do you wind down before bed? Share your tips below! 👇
