Fiona Jane Counselling

Fiona Jane Counselling I'm here to help you. Approaching someone for help can be daunting, especially if you've never had counselling before.

If something is weighing on you, no matter how small or how big, reach out and find out how we can work together. Often the most important part of therapy is the relationship you have with your counsellor. This can take time to build, but sometimes you'll just know they are the right person for you. I want you to feel you can talk openly and honestly with me, and trust me with what you want to share - no matter how small or big you feel it is. If it's important to you, it's important to me. I will be there alongside you, helping you to explore your feelings, thoughts and actions in a safe, confidential and accepting space. I'm not here to "fix" you or to tell you what to do - you know yourself better than anyone else. As an Integrative Counsellor, I work with several different approaches depending on what's right for you. I am here to listen, to understand, to offer challenge and to share anything that I think might be outside of your awareness. I offer counselling sessions via video or telephone, for wherever you are in the UK. I can help if you need short or long term support. If I sound like the right fit for you, the next step is to book an initial assessment session of 50 minutes. Here we can explore whether what I offer works for you and to see if we feel we can work together.

Comparing yourself to others? You're not alone! But, when can it become a problem?

Society sets out lots of unspoken of milestones for us - going to university, settling down, having children and a stable job. And then there are the expectations on how we look, our social lives and our personalities. When we see everyone else around us fitting into "the norm" it can seriously impact our self-esteem. But, are we comparing ourselves against things we really want?

What expectations would you like to say no to?

You know in TV programmes, when the therapist tells their client to lay down on the couch and tell them about their childhood? Yeah...that makes me cringe.

Although I may not agree with how it's portrayed on screen, I can't deny that looking at our past is an important part of understanding why we are the way we are. Whilst talking about your childhood can feel like it's not relevant to something that's happening in the here and now, it often it unlocks important clues about what's going on in our adult lives.

Have you watched Joe Wicks' documentary? He talks about his experiences of a not so normal childhood. What did you think?

Loneliness is something I talk about often with my clients, especially during and since the pandemic. Do you feel you can talk about being lonely?
It's something that affects us all and is an issue that's growing rapidly among younger people.
Loneliness doesn't just impact our physical health, it also has a significant affect on our mental health too.
Often we can feel lonely because we don't feel people understand us or we can't be who we truly are because it doesn't feel safe or acceptable. We can feel lonely when we aren't where we expected to be in life or because we are choosing to live our lives outside of what we've been told is socially acceptable. Does this sound familiar to you?
