Join me as we flow through yoga classes, where we'll stretch, unwind, and maybe even find a little inner peace (or at least attempt to balance on one foot without toppling over!) Bex comes from a military background, having served for 12 years and completed multiple overseas tours of duty. 🫡 During her time in the Army, exercise - aka PT or 'phys' - was always about going harder, faster and stronger. 💪🏼 In a strange twist of fate, this is what ended up leading Bex to Yoga. Before Covid 19 happened, PT consisted of hard gym sessions and weighted tabs (hiking in normal person terms 😅). Then lockdown happened. The gyms shut. Bex was sad. ☹️
Not one to sit around and mope, Bex brought some new running trainers and running became the flavour of the day. Within four weeks, initial distances of about 4 miles quickly increased to 9 miles a day, 5 days a week... Harder, faster, stronger, right ? 😉
Erm, wrong. The accelerated increase resulted in quite severe achilles tendonitis. Initially ignoring the warning signs, half way through a run, Bex found herself cycling back home one day on a newly acquired children's bicycle which had been propped up against a lamp post with a sign attached 'Free bike - Help yourself' (hello, fate 🙏🏼). There she was, cycling back, knees hitting her chest as she cycled because the bike was so small, but in too much pain to walk back. 🤦🏽♀️
Stuck at home, injured. Couldn’t run. Bex was sad again. ☹️
Then one day, Bex remembered a conversation with a guy from work about a little Youtube channel called Yoga with Adriene (🫶🏼 Adriene & FWFG). He swore by yoga, preaching the gospel (Bex thought he had drunk the Kool-Aid). With a grapefruit for an ankle, no access to a physio, and few other options, Bex searched ‘Yoga for beginners Adriene’. What she found was the beginning of a new way. A more balanced way. Not just for getting, and staying, fit but a different way of treating herself and helping to deal with life’s problems. Fast forward four years, Bex is now a veteran, and a qualified Yoga Teacher and Personal Trainer as well as having lots of little projects ongoing. 🤓
Bex still pushes herself, and still very much believes that achieving the things we set out to achieve generally entails a degree of sacrifice and suffering. But, for Bex, Yoga helps to hit the mute button on life’s noise. It helps to balance the mind and also help avoid injury and illness when pushing for goals and experiencing challenges, whether physical or mental. And for Bex, Yoga has even introduced a source fun into her life. Finishing off a class trying to do a headstand or a shoulder balance generally ends in lots of rolling around with childlike fun and laughter. So, whether you’re feeling frazzled from life’s demands or trying to achieve a fitness goal, come and join Bex and encourage a little more balance into your life. 🧘🏽♀️
