“Clean air, healthy people”
That’s the challenge issued by 2025. And sometimes the answers aren’t what you would expect.
Sometimes, the answers take you to a place like the beaches of Senegal, where fish processors spend their day smoking the morning catch.
Here, Energising Development (EnDev) has introduced the clean Nopalé oven as an alternative to smoking fish in the open air. With the custom technology, women can pursue this important local enterprise and bring smoked fish to market without risking the respiratory and eye problems of the smoky past. The air is cleaner all around, and with the need for firewood greatly reduced, the benefits for environmental health reach far.
This is just one pick from a growing collection of stories that our Strategic Comms Team is producing for EnDev, which turns 20 this year and has many tales to share.
In Mballing, Senegal, women fish processors are transforming their livelihoods with the innovative Nopalé fish smoking oven—reducing smoke, improving health, boosting income, and promoting sustainability
