Spring is almost here…
The daffodils are out, the mornings are lighter… and right about now the internet's gonna start banging on about “getting summer ready.”
Eat less. Move more.
Wow 😱
Groundbreaking 😱
Because clearly we just haven’t thought of that yet 🙄
The thing is, advice like that assumes you exist in a nice calm little bubble where the only variables are calories and exercise. 🤦🏻♀️
Meanwhile, real life looks more like this:
🫣You wake up already thinking about three conversations you need to have that day and at least one you could really do without.
😮💨You spend half the morning solving problems that technically belong to other people because it’s quicker than explaining it again.
⏱️You promise yourself you’ll go for a walk at lunchtime… and then realise you’ve been sitting in the same chair for four hours and your 3rd cup of coffee’s stone cold.
By the evening you’re cooking dinner, catching up on emails, answering questions on the whereabouts of objects that you've never even seen, the dog needs feeding, there’s another wash to put on, and you’re wondering whether the Christmas box of Lindors you hid at the back of the cupboard is still there ‘cos it’s either that, a bottle of red🍷 or a one-way ticket to Tenerife ✈️ 🥳
But sure. Let’s pretend the issue is simply less calories.
What really gets me, is how easy it is to start blaming yourself when this formula stops working.
😣You think you’re not disciplined enough.
😣You need more willpower.
😣You just gotta try harder.
But when you actually look at what your body is dealing with most days - the stress, the pace, the mental load, broken sleep, hormones, the constant background noise and pressure - it becomes pretty obvious why the simple maths approach doesn’t always play nicely anymore.
The fundamentals of looking after yourself - as a whole human being - matter... more than ever.
Years of running flat out have left your nervous system seriously overworked - it's like driving at 100mph in second gear and wondering why the engine's screaming.
And when your body has been operating like that for long enough, it stops responding like the neat little equation the diet industry would prefer it to be.
You need something different now.
And you know that because even when you're eating right and squeezing in a run, HIIT, or pilates class when you can - the result isn't the same as it was 20 years ago 🤯
The conversation about weight isn’t nearly as simple as we’ve been told.
And once you see that, the whole thing suddenly gets a lot more interesting.
Because the question stops being:
❌“How much less do I need to eat?”
And becomes:
✅“What’s going on here, what do I actually need?”
And that is far more powerful than any 'diet' will ever be 💪
I promise you...
It's never just "this one thing
Your body and life is a teensy bit more complicated than that🩷
