Chronic Illness Warriors…
I recently posted a question in a Fibro support group, and I was blown away by the response from people who are dismayed, disheartened… feeling dismissed and unheard.

So I thought I’d share the same question here, and find out what your experience has been too. 💜

I was curious to know if any GPs were giving people information about NHS fibromyalgia services ... E.g. support groups, self-management options, pain programmes, CBT, or even basic signposting.

I've truly been amazed by people's responses.

University of Aberdeen research just rewrote what we know about chronic pain.

They have identified a distinct pathway for chronic pain...
one that operates independently from the mechanisms of acute injury.

When muscle tissue releases excessive glutamate, the message to the brain fails to deactivate, creating an overactive signal loop between muscle → nerve → brain → muscle.
This discovery reframes chronic pain as a unique neurobiological process, not a prolonged acute response.

For those of us living with fibromyalgia and related conditions, it’s both confirmation and clarity.

I’ve seen The “Let Them” Theory everywhere lately, and honestly, it stirred something in me. 🤯

Because when your nervous system has lived through chronic stress or trauma, “letting them” isn’t always freedom… sometimes it’s a flashback disguised as surrender. 💭

I love the idea of releasing control, but I’ve learned that true peace doesn’t come from pretending you’re okay - it comes from feeling safe enough to be real.

said this beautifully, and it’s such an important conversation for anyone navigating healing, chronic illness, or emotional burnout.

I didn’t move through the “5 stages of grief” neatly.
Most of us don’t... especially with chronic illness.

My denial lasted years.
I didn’t feel anger - I hid it and stayed silent instead.
Bargaining sounded like:
“I wish I could just go back to who I was.”
Depression didn’t come from the diagnosis...
it came from the constant pain, and the sudden loss of the life I knew.

And acceptance?
That wasn’t giving in or feeling defeate.
It was the moment I stopped fighting myself
and started learning how to live again.

If your journey isn’t linear, tidy, or textbook… know that it's not meant to be.
You’re not failing.
You’re human. 💜

"I am not afraid of the storm, for I am learning to steer my own ship.” ⛵️💜

When arthritis hit my spine back in 2020, it felt like a bombshell. I couldn’t move, couldn’t get out of bed... and yet, looking back now, the biggest surprise wasn’t how bad it was… it was how strong I turned out to be. Somewhere inside, I decided this wasn’t how my story would end.

That was the moment I went back to what I’d always known deep down ... the incredible power of the mind. It reminded me of everything I’d studied and believed in since my college days. It was also the first time I truly began to admit that I had fibromyalgia. To move forward, I had to get back into the right frame of mind to trust again in natural health, in nutrition, and to open myself up to new research and new techniques that could help me heal from the inside out.

đź’ś Today, on World Arthritis Day, the message is clear: Strength in Every Stage.
It’s about resilience - and the dreams we still hold onto, no matter what stage we’re in. Whether your dream is to walk further, dance again, or simply wake up without fear of pain... your strength counts, and your story matters.
