We still remember how tough it was as a first time parent to find out that your little baby had a congenital eye issue. A mixture of shock, disbelief and perhaps a little anger added to the feeling of helplessness. It took us a couple of months to find out that the problem was called Ptosis, a malfunction of the eye lid due to missing muscles. We also learnt that from birth to 7 years old was when the cognitive pathways between the eye and brain developed the most - driving the need for early treatment.
Lukas has received excellent consultation and treatment at Moorfields Eye Hospital since the age of 3 months. He underwent 2 operations , one at 11 months and one at 4.5 years old - in July 2017. We are pleased to say that Lukas now has perfect eyesight and hopefully no further operation will be required.
Lukas started painting classes at around 3 years old. His skills have developed significantly in the last 12-18 months and we had the idea to use his art in a charitable way that could benefit Moorfields and others. Therefore we initiated a fund raising campaign - in conjunction with Moorfields Eye Charity - in support of their work with children with eye disorders. As a token of thanks and with the consent of Lukas, we made a calendar that will be sent - worldwide - to anyone who donates to the charity.
We are reaching out to all of our family and friends to support this good cause and receive a 2018 desk calendar with a selection of Lukas' paintings.
