Miranda started adaptive yoga with me in London probably about 5 years ago. She's been living with rheumatoid arthritis all her life and had already had both hips replaced by age 18. Adaptive yoga gives Miranda a chance to find more ease in her body and mmibd, as we all do... but adaptive yoga is still totally unknown in the wider community and very hard to find for lack of teachers/funding...
Miranda is a true Warrior Goddess who 2 years ago started an amazing project, at start of UK lockdown to offer FREE ADAPTIVE YOGA CLASSES ONLINE with Adaptive Yoga LIVE . This is still running and could do with your support and winning this competition.
I have just entered the 2022 Yoga Warrior Competition and as I'm Irish (and it's St. Patrick's Day today) Im feeling lucky! π
The Yoga Warrior Competition supports veterans recovering from post-traumatic stress and other psychological difficulties
Yoga enthusiasts, worldwide, compete for the title and an all-inclusive trip to the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, a professional photoshoot, $10,000 cash, and an exclusive 2-page advertorial in the pages of Yoga Journal (1.3 million readership).
As part of my application I was asked to explain in one sentence 'Why do you want to win Yoga Warrior?'
My answer: "I want to help remove the internal and external barriers to yoga for the Disabled community".
At the moment 99% of the images you see representing yoga are of hypermobile women contorting themselves into impossible shapes.
The majority of people who could potentially benefit from a regular yoga practice don't fit this very narrow idea of a yogi and, therefore, assume yoga is not for them.
Did you know - virtually any yoga pose can be made accessible for people with disabilities?
If your answer was no, that's because different body types and abilities are not currently represented in mainstream yoga studios, publications or advertisements.
Winning Yoga Warrior would provide a unique platform to explain how yoga helps reduce chronic pain and removes the three biggest barriers to wellbeing within the Disabled community: inactivity, stress, and loneliness.
The $10,000 prize money would go directly to Adaptive Yoga LIVE - to provide more opportunities for Disabled people to practice yoga!
