How much does rTMS cost at our clinic?

The average treatment length for rTMS is 4-6 weeks, with 5 short but intense sessions each week. Due to the cost of the state of the art equipment and the level of expertise involved, rTMS is not a cheap treatment. However, when one considers its benefits, the cost involved makes it worthwhile.

rTMS at The London Psychiatry Centre has a high success rate in treating patients with treatment-resistant depression, and we are the only clinic that publishes its rTMS results. We are confident in our treatment and its results.

Back in 2019, the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) began a major piece of work looking at mental health statistics across the UK. This was initially prompted by increasing public interest in mental health.

They recently published an update with their findings so far, and thoughts on what’s next for statistics across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Concerned about autism or ADHD in your child? Distinguishing the difference between these two conditions could help you understand more about your child's behaviour. Here's a brief explanation:

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are distinct conditions, each with unique characteristics:

• ASD is a complex condition that affects social interaction, communication and behaviour. Individuals with ASD may have difficulties with social cues, repetitive behaviours, sensory sensitivities, and may exhibit intense interests in specific subjects. Every person with autism is unique and experiences the condition differently, and this will affect the type of treatment that they respond to.

• ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder typified by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Individuals with ADHD may struggle with maintaining focus, being organised, impulsiveness, and may display restless or fidgety behaviours.

While there can be overlapping symptoms, autism and ADHD are separate conditions. A comprehensive evaluation by a CAMHS team is crucial to determine an accurate diagnosis.

Understanding these differences can help ensure your child receive the appropriate support and interventions personalised to their unique needs.

Could you be genetically predisposed to stress or mental illness?

Imagine if a simple health test could help you understand how your brain responds to stress, before it ever becomes a problem. At The London Psychiatry Centre, we are now offering a cutting-edge Preventive and Genetic Stress Prediction & Management Service to help you take control of your mental wellbeing, long before symptoms ever begin.

Using advanced genetic testing, we can identify whether you may be predisposed to psychiatric conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, or even certain physical health conditions linked to chronic stress. Armed with this information, we offer bespoke lifestyle advice to help reduce your risk and promote long-term resilience.

🧬 Mental illness may run in families, but it’s not your destiny.
While genetics are a factor, so too are your environment and life experiences. Emerging research shows that experiences like chronic stress or trauma can activate or "switch on" certain genes that influence your mental health. That’s why early intervention is key.

With our preventive service, you can:
✔ Understand your individual stress response
✔ Identify genetic predispositions
✔ Modify environmental and lifestyle risk factors
✔ Take informed steps toward a healthier, more resilient future

This is the future of psychiatry: proactive, personalised, and preventative.

In today’s hyper-connected world, our shrinking attention spans and social media habits act as a double-edged sword. While scrolling might offer a quick source of emotional validation through likes and comments, the rapid attention-switching drives up our baseline stress levels, making it even harder for an already overwhelmed nervous system to cope.

The cycle often looks like this:♻️
1️⃣ The Trigger: A perceived rejection, lack of validation, or overwhelming digital noise.
2️⃣ The Emotional Spike: Your nervous system responds with intense anxiety or a drop in self-esteem (RSD).
3️⃣ The Digital Soothing: You turn to scrolling for distraction and micro-rewards.
4️⃣ The Result: Increased cognitive load, higher stress, and a completely depleted emotional battery.

Managing ADHD isn't just about forcing yourself to concentrate; it’s about understanding the deep link between your attention system and your emotional wellbeing.

Accurate diagnosis is everything. Anxiety and ADHD together can significantly increase the risk of bipolar spectrum disorders, which is why our initial assessments are meticulous and holistic.

What is rTMS?

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is an effective, drug-free, non-invasive treatment for depression which uses magnetic stimulation to stimulate areas of the brain that regulate mood.

The human brain is inherently an electrical organ that functions through the transmission of electrical signals between nerve cells. rTMS treatment works with your body’s natural processes by simply increasing the number and frequency of such transmissions.

rTMS does not produce the side effects normally experienced with traditional medication.

Does it feel like your child might be facing emotional or behavioural challenges? Here are 3 signs they may benefit from seeing a CAMHS team:

• 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀: If your child frequently experiences intense sadness, anxiety, anger, or other overwhelming emotions that impact their daily life and relationships, it's crucial to seek professional support.

• 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝗿: Shifts in your child's behaviour, such as withdrawing from activities, a decline in academic performance, or difficulties with social interactions could indicate underlying emotional or mental health concerns that require a specialist's expertise.

• 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: If your child's emotional or behavioural difficulties are significantly affecting their ability to function at home, school, or during play time with friends, it's essential to seek help. CAMHS specialists are trained to assess and address these challenges, providing tailored treatment plans to support your child's wellbeing.

Remember, early intervention is key! If you recognise any of these signs in your child, don't hesitate to reach out to our CAMHS team. Together, we can help your child thrive and navigate their emotional wellbeing.

Subthreshold bipolar disorder, also known as 'bipolar disorder not otherwise specified' (BD-NOS), is a condition that shares many characteristics with bipolar disorder, yet doesn't meet the full diagnostic criteria for the disorder. Despite this, it can still have a significant impact on an individual's life.

Those with subthreshold bipolar experience mood swings, similar to those with bipolar disorder. They may go through periods of elevated moods (hypomania) and then transition to periods of sadness or low energy (depression). These mood changes can be distressing and impact daily life and relationships.

The main difference between subthreshold bipolar and bipolar disorder lies in the duration and intensity of these mood episodes. In subthreshold bipolar, the episodes may be shorter, less severe or occur less frequently than in full-blown bipolar disorder. However, it's important to note that subthreshold bipolar is not a "lesser" condition but rather a distinct variant of bipolar disorder.

BD-NOS can be treated using The Zamar Protocol™ (Precision guided high-dose thyroid hormones and rTMS protocol) a patented combination of precision medicine-guided High-Dose Levothyroxine (HDL) and mitochondrial treatment with repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS). This is an effective alternative to traditional bipolar disorder treatment that has few - if any - side effects, and very few medications.
