What I have learnt about suffering, pain and trauma, through loss, is that it is only within our body that there is any solace. Mindfulness as a practice literally saved me and that is why I want others to know about the benefits to incorporating being present into daily life. Most of us don’t even realise that we are not present because that is how much we aren’t paying attention. As so beautifully puts it - the moment, just one at a time, bears us in and through our pain.

When we chose to mediate, to focus on our breath to pay attention without judgement or attachment, we become aware of a certain stillness inside which grounds us, brings peace, brings calm... even if we only meditate for a moment that moment is a place of refuge from whatever is going on outside of us. Try to make space for meditative moments today even if you aren’t able to sit and meditate for 30-40min on your favourite chair, there is still a benefit in the spaces a moment creates

I adore these wise words Thich Nhat Hanh because not only are they so obviously true, they are such a good reminder of how we can often “love” so selfishly, working to ensure our needs our met by the other. Loving with awareness means that we love without agenda and without trying to gain.

This is the paradox - if we can master loving with an open heart (and managed ego) we allow the other to feel free, but in so doing we actually learn about our own freedom.

Isn’t it frustrating when we climb into bed exhausted yearning for a good night of rest and sure enough just when we really want to be blissfully falling asleep, our mind takes hold and thoughts pour in taking over. Once I become aware of what my mind is doing, what I find helpful is to start breathing deeply, sometimes even counting each inhale and exhale to keep my mind focused on the breathing until thought recedes to the background. Another option which I really love is to listen to and her amazing sleep meditations. She’s truly genius! To try out my favourite one, click the link in my Instagram bio (https://insig.ht/WqeVrgbyWV) and let me know how well you sleep 💛 💤 .

"Most of the time, our head is so full of thoughts that we have no space to listen to ourselves or anyone else. We may have learned from our parents or in school that we have to remember lots of things, we have to retain a lot of words, notions, and concepts; and we think that this mental stockpile is useful for our life. But then when we try to have a genuine conversation with someone, we find it difficult to hear and understand the other person. Silence allows for deep listening and mindful response, the keys to full and honest communication."

~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Take a moment and ask yourself if there is anything you can let go of today. Is there anything you’re holding onto right now that you might be ready to release?

Our minds lead us away and we are so easily distracted throughout our day. When we are mindful we can bring all our attention to a task. In the moment that we find ourselves distracted, let us take a breath there and accept the distraction, without berating ourselves, and then with kindness, bring ourselves back to the task at hand.

The three gate of speech is hotly contested online in regards to where it comes from or who said it first. It seems it could be related back to Buddhism or Hinduism or the Sufis. For me what is important, is that the message is a reminder that words can harm and its so easy to just let rip and say whatever arises without any consideration - I know I make this mistake far to often.
In the purposeful pause, there is space to contemplate and make decisions about our responses and therein lies our power. In that space, is the opportunity to communicate, not only effectively, but also with kindness, compassion and sincerity. This adds immense value to any interaction both in the context of a business or a personal relationship.

In every interaction there is place for a pause, to make a choice, to be mindful and to be present. You can find the place right between someone saying something and your response. .
