Wars, they say, come and go but soldiers remain. In the journey of life, we’re the soldiers and life, war. 2020 brought on an unforeseen enemy, COVID, which caught everyone off-guard, left millions displaced and the world devasted. As we know it, it hasn’t been a respecter of persons or creed: the rich/poor, strong/weak, young/old, white/black.
While it’s believed that tough people outlive tough times, this year hasn’t been about that. For me, it’s only by grace that we are still here: not only being counted amongst the living but also being in good health and privileged to see the end of another 365 day cycle.
Yes! It is grace! “He who feels it knows it” indeed. Call it an exaggeration if you may but when you hear the frantic voice of a mother on the phone, not to exchange pleasantries with a son but to inform him of the loss of another, a healthy, strong and energetic man, who did not lay sick for even an hour and certainly did not perish to COVID 19, you probably may understand why it’s just GRACE and nothing more that you’re still here. When this is a brother, better than yourself, who calls to check on your welfare on a Monday, schedules to call back on Saturday but becomes late on a Thursday, it hits you different.
While I’m heartbroken at this reality, I’m also appreciative for the gift of life, one for which I’m not even worthy nor deserving, considering my shortcomings. I’m thankful for the lives of family and friends; for you who have been with me through thick and thin; for your corrections, words of caution, and encouragement at times when needed. To those who stabbed me in the back, spoke ill of me and tried to hurt me in any way, you played your roles, which I must say, has made me a better person so I’m still grateful for your existence.
As Albert Einstein said, "no problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” Folks, it’s not enough to wish the end of a year and welcome another. We do so year in year out and we’ll continue to do so without any impact until we change our ways and our routine while fighting the deadly virus that has cost us our livelihood and everything we've worked for. We should not continue to do the same things expecting different results. 2020 may have done its’ worst but let’s not loose hope for life can and does change quickly.
Let’s pick ourselves up and make a triumphant entry into 2021. Let’s be consistent yet patient with ourselves while chasing our dreams through the new year and beyond. Let’s make decisions today that our future selves will be proud of.
Let’s spread love and continue to be our brother's keeper, united and safe. It’s only in unity that unforeseen and unseen enemies can be conquered. Happy 2021! I'm glad we made it! God bless and keep us all.
Regards,
Wildest Dreams
