Our Story
This truly open MRI system has high acceptance to those who are unable to undertake conventional MRI due to claustrophobia or obesity - or who are unable to lie down due to certain heath conditions. Our Open Upright MRI System also offers the unique possibility of scanning patients in an upright or weight-bearing position versus the conventional MRI supine position. The patient can be examined in varying degrees of flexion or extension, rotating, or bending laterally - to the position where they experience most pain. Conventional MRI images patients lying down, in a closed tunnel scanner. Conventional supine only scans cannot detect certain pathology that becomes visible only when the patient is in an upright or weight-bearing position: this is especially the case with conditions affecting the spine. It can be used for any weight-bearing joints-knees, hips, especially in the investigation of sports injuries.
