Kate Slatter Wellness Each phase has enriched my understanding of health, pushing me to explore wellness beyond the surface. Let’s empower your wellness, together.

Welcome to Kate Slatter Wellbeing, I'm Kate Slatter Registered Nutritional Therapist, and Functional Medicine Health Coach .... Empowering Wellness, One Step at a Time! From my early fascination with nutrition to a career in elite sports, my path to becoming a nutritional therapist has been a true roller coaster—filled with highs, challenges, and transformations. My life has spanned school days spent poring over science books (self-confessed geek), the demands and exhilaration of training at an Olympic level, and the deep joy and grounding experience of becoming a mother. Injury setbacks and the unique experiences of navigating menopause added new layers to my perspective. These were moments when I truly learned the power of nutrition and lifestyle medicine—not only as tools for peak performance but also as foundations for resilience, balance, and joy through life's changes. My functional medicine approach sees each individual as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms. I’m passionate about empowering others to unlock wellness one step at a time, combining evidence-based nutritional therapy with insights from my own journey. I invite you to join me as we explore health in a way that embraces the highs and lows, celebrates small victories, and builds a lifestyle that supports you through every stage.

Well done on all of you who did the Self Care challenge.

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, the magic comes when we keep it simple and choose a few small things to do regularly.

Here are 8 self care ideas - pick one (or more!) and weave them into your daily rhythm. Over time, your body learns to trust you, and that’s when the real change happens.

✨ Keep it simple. Keep it regular. Keep it for you."

25 years ago today… Sydney 2000. Wearing the green and gold for Australia was such an honour, and this race was my last ever for my country. Bittersweet - coming second and wondering what if. But looking back, I’m so proud of what we achieved. That race taught me to grab every moment and to savour life’s highs and lows, because they all shape who we are 💚💛.

Here’s to celebrating the memories, the lessons, and the journey.

Back from holiday and already knee-deep in the to-do list… sound familiar?

Sometimes it feels like no matter how much we tick off, there’s always more waiting.
It got me thinking — are we spending more time as human doings instead of human beings?

That pause, that space to recharge, is where the magic happens. And it’s exactly why I’m carving out time for more self-care this season.

I’ve got a free self care challenge coming 22–29 Sept to help you (and me!) do the same.

Stay tuned — details soon.

Came home from holiday expecting to feel fully recharged - instead, I’m craving routine and a proper reset. Anyone else get that?

For me, September feels like the perfect time to kickstart the season with some self-care, the kind that fills you up and gets you back on track.

What’s one thing you do for self-care that makes you feel more like you again? Drop it below, I’d love to get inspired 💬

(Ps… I’ve got a free self-care challenge coming 22–26 Sept to help us all get back in the groove - details soon!).

After finding out I was only 65% hydrated (despite thinking I was doing so well 😅), I decided to step up my game.

Hydration isn’t just about what you drink — it’s also about what you eat.

So here are my top 8 hydrating foods I’m adding in regularly:
🥒 Cucumber – over 95% water, light and refreshing.
🍉 Watermelon – sweet, hydrating, and full of antioxidants.
🥬 Lettuce – a crisp base for salads or wraps.
🍓 Strawberries – juicy, vitamin C-rich snacks.
🍊 Oranges – hydration + electrolytes.
🍅 Tomatoes – perfect for salads, sauces, or roasting.
🌱 Celery – crunchy, salty, and super hydrating.
🍍 Pineapple – tropical sweetness and digestive enzymes.

I’m mixing these into salads, smoothies, snacks, and side dishes — easy wins that boost hydration and nutrients.

💬 Which one’s your favourite? Or do you have a go-to hydrating food I should try?

Found out my herbal tea habit wasn’t keeping me as hydrated as I thought 😅 (some teas are mildly diuretic — meaning your body sends them straight through).

So I’ve been exploring other hydrating drink options that actually count towards my hydration levels:

💧 Water – still the gold standard. Ideally filtered.
🥒 Cucumber-infused water – adds minerals and a crisp taste.
🥥 Coconut water – naturally rich in electrolytes like potassium.
🌱 Chia water – hydration plus omega-3s and fibre for slower water release.
🍵 Rooibos tea – herbal, non-diuretic, and naturally sweet.
🫚 Ginger tea – soothing for digestion and naturally caffeine-free.
🍋 Lemon water – a vitamin C boost and gentle morning wake-up.
⚡ Electrolyte drinks – help maintain fluid balance, especially after exercise or in hot weather.

Now I’m mixing these into my daily routine — especially between meals — and already feeling the difference.

💬 What’s your favourite hydrating drink? Share it in the comments so I can try it!

Ok… Magnesium 101 📝

This little mineral is like the behind-the-scenes crew at a big show - you don’t see it, but without it, nothing runs smoothly.

It’s involved in over 300 processes in your body - from keeping your muscles working properly, to calming your nervous system, to supporting sleep, energy, hormone balance, and even blood sugar control.

The problem? Most of us don’t get enough. Stress, processed foods, too much coffee, and certain meds can all lower your levels.

Solution? Eat magnesium-rich foods every single day.

Here are 10 tasty ways to get more magnesium:
🥬 Spinach – leafy green powerhouse.
🌰 Almonds – easy snack, also great in porridge.
🥑 Avocado – creamy and full of healthy fats.
🍫 Dark chocolate (85%+) – yes, really.
🐟 Salmon – plus a boost of omega-3s.
🍌 Bananas – portable, sweet energy boost.
🌱 Pumpkin seeds – sprinkle on salads or yogurt.
🥦 Broccoli – nutrient-dense and versatile.
🥜 Cashews – rich and satisfying.
🍠 Sweet potato – magnesium plus fibre and beta-carotene.

💬 Which one’s your favourite? And which could you add in this week?
