In light of the government using the Access to Work scheme as one of the major routes on which it intends to rely to bring people with disabilities into the workplace, the current state of affairs highlighted in this article is very concerning.
As a business run by people with disabilities for people with disabilities, we are all too aware of the devastating impact such failings in the system are having on the lives and prospects of the people who rely on it to both carry out and keep their employment.
Whilst we will always strive to do our very best to provide the highest level of service which we are able, we would also urge the government to consider the implications that the proposed changes, coupled with the failings in the current Access To Work system, are having a not just the employment prospects of people with disabilities, but also on their equality of opportunity, mental health and well-being, and financial stability/security.
Jobs fears as disability scheme owes businesses thousands

One firm says it is owed £186,000 by the Access to Work scheme and is worried it may have to close.

As a consequence of the delays which have been experienced over the past several months by people with disabilities attempting to obtain support from the DWP's Access To Work scheme, we are asking all of our clients, colleagues, employees, and partner agencies to please consider signing the petition linked below.
Through no fault of their own, people with disabilities are being prevented from obtaining and retaining employment by problems and delays over which they have no control.
We want to see people with disabilities given the same opportunities as their peers and colleagues, and so we are supporting the drive for change in this petition and asking the government to ensure the smooth operation of the systems in place in order that people with disabilities are on an equal footing and have the same access to resources and opportunities as everyone else.
Please do click the link, sign the petition, and share it if you are able. Importantly, your signature on the petition will not be counted until you finalise the process by clicking the link in the email you will be sent after completing the initial stage.
We thank you for your support in these very trying circumstances.

Some people with disabilities are waiting over 6-months for Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to contact them to discuss the support they need to obtain or stay in paid work or set-up their own businesses.

Something a little lighthearted for a Thursday afternoon.

We were very amused to read about Sylvester making sure that the trainee guide dogs know who's boss whilst at the same time helping them to learn.

Former stray Sylvester helps train prospective guide dogs at a centre in Leamington Spa.

Congratulations to Chris and Diane on their well-deserved Strictly win.
They have both worked so hard and so well together, really showing us not only what people with disabilities can achieve, but also what can be achieved when two people work together in partnership and bring their own unique skills to a situation which allows them to create something wonderful, special and unique.
