Helping and supporting customers is what a carer does everyday. This also means providing a service for the needs of an individual as these can vary from customer to customer. Recently one of our customers was finding it increasingly difficult to fund their care with the increased cost of living. They had applied for help but had been refused, upon further investigation they had failed to provide all the information concerning their needs and condition due to difficulty in form filling. We helped them complete a application form ensuring all the required information was provided and a few weeks later they were informed that they were successful with the application and would be receiving a financial help each month. The customer wasso grateful.

We kept on being told that there is a lot of patients ready to be discharged from hospital but due to carer support availability in the community they cannot. There is a problem but some of it can be relieved if councils allocated work to more companies in their Borough's instead of giving work to a few that they have decided to be their preferred options. This would definately free up beds and help hospitals reduce appointment waiting times, also help Government meet one of its targets.

Care Quality Commission rating for this company have always been rate as good but work is never allocated even though the council's in the areas they provide care have been informed of availability.

Customers stipulating a preference for the company have been forced to accept care with the councils preferred providers even though customers are allowed to choose whom they would like care from.

Recently I went to a shopping mall and saw a group of elderly people sitting there. I didn't think anything of it but after about two hours leaving there i saw them all still sitting there so i approached them and spoke to them. I was surprised by some of there responses from being there was warmer and cheaper then heating their premises to one person telling that they left the home in tthe morning when their family went to work and returned home when they did as they were not allowed to stay in the home when the family was out. They said it was also cheaper then going to a day centre.
I was shocked and thought about this on my way home, what would I do in these circumstances if it was one of my family members, could I treat them in this way and resoundingly I anwered no way and would be totally ashamed. There is also the safety issue for the people.
Just wanted to know other peoples views concering this and what would you do if it was one of your family members.
