It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce the first issue of the Global Wound Care Journal (GWCJ) — the official publication of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS).

GWCJ is more than a journal; it’s a global platform for advancing science, education, and collaboration in modern wound care. Our mission is to foster knowledge exchange that breaks down geographical and professional boundaries, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes worldwide.

In this inaugural issue, you’ll find insightful research, practical guidance, and multidisciplinary perspectives that speak to clinicians, researchers, educators, and policymakers alike.

We invite you to read, engage, and contribute to a journal that represents the rich diversity and expertise of the global wound care community.

We are delighted to announce that Dr Karen Ousey will be joining the OmniaMed Communications team as Clinical Manager, working across Wounds UK and Wounds International. Karen brings a wealth of clinical and academic wound care experience, having most recently held the position of Professor of Skin Integrity at the University of Huddersfield, Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention. Karen is also current Chair of the International Wound Infection Institute (IWII) and President of the International Skin Tears Advisory Panel (ISTAP).
Karen’s appointment comes at a busy time for our wound care team. As well as being the publishing partner for the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS), we are now working with D-Foot International (and other prestigious international organisations). In the UK, the Wounds UK Annual Conference, held in Harrogate from 11th to 13th November, is set to be our biggest ever, with all stands and sponsored sessions expected to be sold out within the next week.

The role of Clinical Manager was previously held by Suzie Calne, a long-standing and beloved member of the team, who is now retiring to spend more time with her family but will be continuing her involvement with the wounds team in an advisory role.

If you have any questions about how you can work with us (including Karen!), please feel free to drop us a message.

Best wishes,

Wounds Group
