So, the MHrA has approved the Australian product Androfemme for the treatment of hyposexual desire disorder (HSDD) which is great - but that doesn’t unfortunately mean you’ll be able to get it today.
The press release from manufacturer says it will probably not be available until sometime in 2026 and then it will need to be approved by individual ICBs.
So, good news but not immediate access.
This makes the UK the 4th country in the world to issue a license for this testosterone product.
I hope that helps.

Hot of the press (Source: Pharma Times , https://pharmatimes.com/news/gedeon-richter-launches-nalvee-in-uk-to-expand-hrt-options-for-menopause/)

We finally have a new progestogen option available to give alongside oral or transdermal oestrogen. Dydrogesterone 10mg can now be prescribed to women in the UK as an alternative option to micronised progesterone (Utrogestan, Gepretix) or other progestins. Some women do not get on with ‘natural’ progesterone or they don’t want or have side effects with the Mirena coil. Dydrogesterone has so far only been available in combined HRT options (Femoston) and we are really excited that it has now launched as a standalone medication. Particularly when combined with transdermal oestrogen, it offers more flexibility regarding the oestrogen dose compared to the oral combined options(Femoston) and this also reduces blood clot risk.

This is really good news for many women!

🚨 Exciting update in ’shealth and !

Nalvee (10mg dydrogesterone) has been (re)launched in the UK as a stand-alone progestogen tablet – a development I have been eagerly awaiting.

🌟 Why is this such a big deal?
Nalvee expands our options for:

•The progestogen part of HRT

•Treatment of dysmenorrhoea, endometriosis, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, irregular cycles and PMS.

Everyone responds differently to medications – the more options we have, the better we can tailor treatments to each individual.

✅ What are the key benefits of Nalvee
• Body-similar: Comparable to micronised body-identical progesterone, with current data showing lower risks of blood clots and lower breast cancer risk in the long term (important as it’s the progestogen part of HRT that influences breast cancer risk).

• Better bleeding control: More predictable, lighter patterns – less disruption for patients.

• Less androgenic: Reduced PMS-like side effects such as low mood, acne, and loss of libido.

💊Why this changes practice
Dydrogesterone has been available in combined HRT tablets (e.g., Femoston), but these limit oestrogen choice and dose flexibility.

🥳With Nalvee as a single tablet, we can now personalise care – combining it with patches, sprays, or gels of choice, and adjusting oestrogen doses to suit each individual’s symptoms.

✨ More options mean more personalised, tailored treatments for my patients.

The BMS has released guidance on blood tests looking at oestrogen levels - when you need them, when you don’t, what they show and much more is included.
If you want to know more Dr Clare Spenser, , menopause GP and member of the BMS and I will be chatting about this on 29th at 11am.
There’s a lot in there and hopefully we’ll clear up a lot of confusion on when you needs tests, what they show, protecting bones and much more.

Thank you - important to know!
・・・
New guidelines for clinicians have just been published on the management of women on HRT who then start weight loss injections.

If you have a BMI over 30 it is important to be on transdermal estrogen (through the skin). The choice of progestogen for endometrial protection is also important as some women are getting unexpected bleeding if on oral progestogens and then starting the injections e.g. semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirazepatide (Mounjaro).

If you are on HRT and weight loss injections, you can read the summary (accessible to all) and discuss this with your prescriber. You may want to give them a copy of the guidelines as they may not be aware of them. You may need to change your oral progesterone dose, change the method of delivery, change to a combined patch or consider having a Mirena coil instead.

The same issues will apply to those on these injections to manage their Type 2 diabetes.

The guidelines are at thebms.org.uk -> Publications -> BMS Tools for Clinicians
