We’ve had a great time this week choreographing our “Creative Response” piece for Neon Dance as Cultural Connectors for their latest piece back in May 2023 at Science Museum, London, ‘Last and First Men’.
We’ve been working with two participants, Mark and Lesta and Lesta is a Lindy Hop dancer that has always felt that she has had to hide her to be respected as a dancer.
Throughout rehearsals, Lesta shone as the amazing dancer that she is and her sight loss for us, simply meant that we made sure that the space was accessible and we described everything that we did with as much clarity and tactile touch as was needed.
Watch this space for the sharing of the final piece!
Image Description: A black female dancer in pink leggings stands centre-back, curved over with her elbows bent, one hand to her forehead. A female Asian dancer kneels to the right, low to the ground with crossed legs, head bowed forwards. A white male dancer lays on his tummy to the left, chest raised up, he looks around. There is a large drum to the side.
