Attitude is Everything We connect disabled people with music and live event industries to improve access together.

Attitude is Everything supports the music industry to make live music events more accessible. Having begun as a pilot project in 2000, we are now a fully independent charity and part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio of Organisations. We encourage events producers to go beyond legal obligations set out in The Equality Act and implement Best Practice, providing a fair and equal service to their Deaf and disabled customers.

Previous Future Leader, Emma Shaw AKA emzae, writes openly and candidly about the experiencs of Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists in the UK music scene.

About Attitude is Everything and our Future Leaders programme, she says: "It is also through becoming connected with a number of other disabled artists - all of immense talent - who are struggling in similar ways, that I have become determined to speak up about it. Because too much music is getting lost, and too many careers are fading away, when they could flourish with the right support."

We are teaming up with P**A (Parents and Carers in Performing Arts) to work on new research that explores how caring responsibilities intersect with disability and working in the music industry.

We have released a survey for this piece of research and are currently seeking participants for it.

If you work in the music industry, have caring responsibilities, and are Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent then please share your experiences in our survey.

Caring responsibilities can look like…
• Preparing someone’s meals for them
•Transporting a person because they need support
• Being a parent of a child who needs additional support
• Being an emotional/physical support for a family member
• Supporting a neighbour with day-to-day tasks

⏰ Deadline: 5th March

In our Unseen and Unheard report that we published with Black Lives in Music in 2023, we found that 91% of Black disabled music creatives and professionals said that they felt unsatisfied with how they are supported by the music industry.

As part of our commitment to address and tackle intersectional discrimination in the music industry, we will be launched a peer support session for Black disabled music creatives and professionals to connect with one another and share what future sessions can look like.

This session will be joined by Eve Horne who founded We Are The Unheard CIC, an organisation dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and promoting gender equality in the music industry

Tune in on 22nd January where we will be holding Rest Salon, our first peer support session for Black disabled professionals and music creatives.

For many LGBTQIA+ disabled people, attending venues and events that cater to them is often out of reach because of a lack of accessibility. As a result, many feel excluded from their communities where they should be able to celebrate their identities.

We've launched a survey to better understand the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ disabled people attending events that should cater towards LGBTQIA+ people.

By sharing your stories and insights, you can help to shed light on the current state of access and inclusivity in LGBTQIA+ spaces.

The insights gained from this survey will inform a virtual roundtable discussion, and from this we will report on the findings of the survey results into an invaluable resource for the live events sector.
