So it’s been over 4 months since I actually exercised properly - walking has been great BUT my mindset was not in the right place to get up and raise the heart beat! So I took the pressure off myself and said I will start again when it feels right - today was that day and it felt great!!!

Sometimes you just need a cuppa, fresh air and permission to sit for a while! . What have you done for yourself recently? .

Walking is not exercise - this is what I hear a lot!

However did you know that walking is deemed as an exercise and it also have great benefits, such as...

⭐Improves circulation - walking wards off heart disease, brings up the heart rate, lowers blood pressure and strengthens the heart. Post-menopausal women who walk just one to two miles a day can lower their blood pressure.

⭐Improves sleep - all the fresh air and exerecise can really help you switch off at night!

⭐Improves your breathing capacity - when walking, your breathing rate increases, causing oxygen to travel faster through the bloodstream, helping to eliminate waste products and improve your energy level and the ability to heal.

⭐Improves muscle tone - walking tones your leg and abdominal muscles – and even arm muscles if you pump them as you walk. This increases your range of motion, shifting the pressure and weight from your joints to your muscles.

So don't forget walking has many more benefits and stretching after a long walk is sensible - after all all those muscles you are using will need a stretch!

I love the inside of this new trainer shoe box!

I can't agree more than what is said here. When you run you should be integratring your 'whole' body - feet, ankles, thighs, buttocks, hips, lumbar spine, core, arms and head!

All these parts should be working together and that way you can avoid injuries, get a fitter body, as well as run better and smarter.

Like to know more then please look into my Fit to Run course that helps you intergrate all these aspects over a 6 week course.

Thursday thought.....to grow you need to challenge yourself.

So whatever it may be exercise, work or health sometimes you need to push yourself and step
out of your comfort zone.

By stepping out of your comfort zone you create new experiences and new neural pathways and this helps you grow in many ways.

So how have you challenged yourself recently?

Do you know there are such things as normal bladder functions that we can ALL achieve when we know the facts behind our bladder norms.

So....

There should be NO urgency, NO leakage, NO Pain, NO need to strain to empty and when you go for a wee it should be continous and steady with NO leak afterwards.

Ideally you should have around 2-3 hours between going for a wee and no accidents.

If you drink around 2 litres of fluid a day between the hours of you waking and going to bed you will probably need to go for a wee around 5-7 times.

Caffeine is an irritant of the bladder.

Alcohol is a diuretic, a bladder irritant and muscle relaxant.

You can overfill your bladder as well as empty your bladder when it is not full - 'just in case' wee!

If you are ticking some of the list off in your head then maybe you need to start to understand your bladder and pelvic floor better. It is never too late to start better bladder habits because these changes will make a BIG difference to your pelvic floor and vice versa.

Working with women that have taken the decision to invest some time into their health, wellness and fitness means that I need to make sure that I listen and give feedback.

The key to the work I do is to guide the client to become more body aware, feel the movement and expecially get the brain connected back to their body. The success that so many of my clients gain is due to the fact that they can now listen to their own bodies, understand the habits they may need to change and feel when it is right to increase or decrease the exercise level.

So, whatever their reasons for coming, each client is treated individually whether they are in a group or 1:1. Using their pre screening, hands on assessment and education this is what makes Holistic Core Restore® programmes UNIQUE and effective.

Most of us have realised that moving our bodies can have a huge impact on our mental wellbeing and with the last year of lockdown many more of us have taken to running or long walks - brilliant!

This course helps you build more strength, stamina and mobility, helping you to overcome and understand those niggles that might have crept in!

The amazing Michelle Lyons, our Holistic Core Restore Clinical Consultant, developed this course so that we can help more women to reduce the signs of stress, improve resilience and memory, as well as help many women start running knowing that they are doing things safely.

I love teaching this course and can't wait to start the next one on Wednesday 14th April at 7.30pm

HOWEVER if you want to learn more about this course then come along to a free overview of the course on Thursday 1st April at 7.30pm.

Happy Mothers Day!

I posted this image a year ago and I can’t believe that we will still need to do the same again this year.

Many will have a different day today and my heart goes out to the amazing mums that have been lost in the past year - may they live in your hearts forever. For those that can see their mums, even virtually, send them hugs and kisses in abdunace and live for the moment you can do it in person.

Sending you all much love on this day to celebrate the hardest but most rewarding job in the world 💕

Why is International Womens Day such a thing?

It was spurred on by a Ukraine-born suffragist named Clara Lemlich, who demanded better pay, shorter working hours and improved working conditions for 15,000 garment workers who went on strike in New York in 1909.

The idea grew and still to this day there is a need for better healthcare for women, to provide more opportunities to help more women rise through the ranks at work, as well as to stop violence against women and girls.

So today I would like to shine the light on the amazing women who have survived this pandemic, juggled the housework, work and children and occasionally manged to find a little of time for themselves to exercise and look after themselves.

You are all amazing, we are amazing and occasionally we just need a reminder of this!

I hope you have a wonderful day, Ali x

Ali Burlingham: Women’s Wellbeing

Having worked in the pregnancy and postnatal industry for the past five years I took the opportunity in 2018 to build my own business, centred around women’s health.

My own pregnancy journey to motherhood was a steep learning curve but one I thrived in, so much so that my interest in pregnancy, birthing and motherhood grew. Combining the experience of having three children, my own professional expertise and passion for education this naturally developed into a career centred around women.

I am passionate about educating women about their bodies, capabilities and choices throughout the main stages of their lives – pregnancy, postnatal (you are always postnatal after a baby!) menopause and beyond.
