Childhood can be a tricky time to negotiate, with each developmental milestone comes new challenges and that’s without the unexpected events that often occur to disrupt the path of emotional growth and well- being. Then there’s adolescents, a time of great change and turbulence and the question of......

” who am I” ? Sometimes we just need a little empathy and understanding and time to explore our internal world to have an understanding of how to negotiate the path of life to becoming a happy and well adjusted adult.

Adult and parent counselling also available

At Clare Counselling, we believe that understanding the "why" behind a child’s behaviour is the first step toward healing.
This fascinating article from The Conversation explores how modern neuroscience is changing the way we approach raising children. We are moving away from traditional discipline and toward trauma-informed parenting—an approach that prioritises brain development, emotional safety, and connection.
Trauma-informed parenting isn't just a trend; it is the way forward for building resilient, regulated, and healthy families.

Old-school parenting strategies like ‘go to your room!’ can often amplify the very behavior that parents want to correct.

A quick update from Clare Counselling 🌿

Since the start of the year, I have been incredibly moved by the number of people reaching out to start their therapeutic journey. I’ve received an influx of emails, referrals, and messages, and I want you to know that I see you and I hear you.
I am doing my very best to respond to each and every one of you as quickly as I can. Since moving from my practice in Sudbury, I no longer have a team with me—it is now just me managing everything from the clinical work to the admin.
I appreciate your patience and your grace while I work through my messages. Your well-being is my priority, and I want to ensure I give every inquiry the attention it deserves.
If You Need Support Right Now
If you are struggling and feel you cannot wait for a response, please do not suffer in silence. Help is available through these dedicated services:

Your GP: Contact your local doctor’s surgery for an urgent appointment.
The Samaritans: Call 116 123 anytime, day or night, for free confidential support.
Suffolk Mind / Local Services: Reach out to the mental health support networks available across Suffolk.
Emergency Care: If you are in an immediate crisis or at risk of harm, please Call 111 and press option 2 for the NHS Mental Health Crisis Support line or 999.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. I look forward to connecting with many of you soon.
Warmly,
Clare

What might seem a small thing can make such a differerence to a child at time of trauma. 💛

A huge thank you to the people who made us some more 'Trauma Teds' and handed them into Haverhill Police Station yesterday.

These trauma teds are very important and involved in the unseen side of Policing that many will never see - Dealing with traumatic incidents involving children.

They are used to console children at the scenes of collisions, sudden deaths and on occasion when Police take a child into Emergency Police Protection and have to look after them temporarily at the Police station until the Social Service process takes over.

What You Will Experience:

✨️Transformation Through Therapeutic Insight

This is a small-group therapeutic experience designed for connection, deep exploration, incorporating powerful creativity and mindfulness techniques and emotional expression, grounded in psychotherapeutic theory:
Psychological Exploration: We will use theory and process to examine the thought processes, the psyche, and internal belief systems that contribute to keeping us stuck in old cycles.

Journaling & Exploration: Use journaling to delve into self-reflection and uncover the roots of patterns holding you back. Encouraging moving forward with positive affirmation.

Letting Go with EFT: Learn and apply EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) for powerful and gentle letting go of what no longer serves you.
Meditation and Visualisation: Engage in relaxing meditation and visualisation exercises to cultivate inner peace, clarify your intentions, and embed your new, positive direction.

Vision Board Creation: You will be supported in creating a powerful and meaningful vision board, using a mix of creative media.

Goal Setting: We will focus on translating your vision into realistic and attainable goals, ensuring you leave feeling grounded and motivated for the year ahead.

It's been over a year since I moved from the Sudbury practice, and I’m grateful for how the new space has unfolded. The practice feels calm, therapeutic and a grounding experience, surrounded by such tranquil countryside.

The small room is my space for adults, supervision, and reflective work.
The larger room holds sessions with children, therapeutic art, group work, retreat groups, and training.

I’m noticing I’m more relaxed and happier, and I’m sure this energy comes through to my clients.💛🩵
