For nearly all of the time humans have been on the planet, regular conversations across the species border were an everyday natural part of life.

Sadly, this seems like a strange invitation in our world today; most people have difficulty initiating such a conversation. Perhaps this is because we’ve been taught from a very young age to perceive nature as separate, a life-less object, a commodity. This mistaken perception seems to be at the foundation of our cultural ills.

In The Lost World of the Kalahari, Laurens van der Post writes about living among the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert and describes how shocked they were that he couldn’t hear the stars. At first they thought he must be joking or lying. When they realized he really couldn’t hear the stars, they concluded he must be very ill and expressed great sorrow. For the Bushmen knew anyone who can’t hear nature must have the gravest and deadliest sickness of all.

Humanity’s ability to perceive the sentience of Earth is critical to our survival and to all life on earth.

Longing to be in conversation with nature can catalyze us. And perhaps the natural world longs for this relationship with us too.
Longing is not acquiring, as the vulnerability of failure feels all too possible. Instead, longing incites us into feeling the love-ache of what we really value, and it matures us into becoming and creating that which matters most, like an embodied prayer that lays our life on the altar to serve what we love.

Just to let you know I am in the process of updating my website www.annekingston.com and eventually the page to reflect a few changes for the Desert Dance Healing team. The holidays are being relaunched with a new identity under the name Morocco Moves so that I can connect all the trips together ie Morocco Moves (Desert) 10 day trips; Morocco Moves (Mts & Coast) 7 day trips and Morocco Moves (Marrakech) 3/4 day trips and also to reflect the embodied movement aspect of the trips. The trip content is constantly being tweaked and improved so all the good stuff remains and is added to with each adventure. Next trip is 10 days - 7-16 May to the desert.

THE DESERT IS A WOMAN

The desert is a woman.
Those who do not take the time
Will never know her beauty.
Appreciate her heat.
Or comprehend her power.

If you come to learn from her
She will reward you with her ageless wisdom.
Share her warmth with you but not let you burn.
And show you the secret places where her beauty lies.

If she decides you belong to her she will nurture you.
And teach you her ways.
But be attuned to her storm clouds.
From dry riverbed to raging flood waters
She can sweep you away.

If you come when she is ready
She will bloom for you
Sometimes only in the dark of night
So like a woman
Content to blossom for her self-alone.

Come to her at sunset
And prepare to be awed by her resplendence.
From green to red and gold
Turquoise to azure
Her spectrum knows no boundaries.

She has many moods.
But it will be her silence and vision that will awe you.
Stand with her and feel her serenity.
Look out with her and see her depth.
Stay with her and learn her meaning.

The desert is a woman
And she will never disappoint.

Oh yes, we are off to the desert again! Am planning a 10 day trip for 7-16 May 2022 (changed from Apr to avoid Easter flight costs). Do get in touch if that sings to you. Morocco, city, mountains and desert in one trip. Sunshine, beautiful Berber people, organic food, drumming, dancing, laughing, resting, connecting with self and the planet. This is a bespoke Desert Dance Healing and Mad Nomad adventure.
