“Mindfulness isn’t difficult. We just need to remember to do it.” – Sharon Salzberg

⭐With practice we receive benefits such as; more time in the day and being able to balance our thoughts and feelings.

💥Mindfulness is like a physical exercise where we build our ‘strength’ or ‘skill’, so it is available when needed.

🔥We do not begin training for a big competition a day before, we start months even years.

techniques, check out the link in my bio.

💥How the environment around us is, has a direct effect on not just our mental health, but also our physical and emotional health.

🌿If we keep a dirty and untidy house, it may have obvious effects on our physical health, but what we do not think about is the mental health side effects.

🌪Of course there is always the other extreme of overdoing it with neatness and cleanliness, that can make it a negative rather than a positive. But the happy middle is where we should aim for, it is good enough, where we can look around and say to ourselves it's not perfect but it is good enough.

⭐We all struggle to practice the things we know are good for us.

🌿There is no judgment, we all have things going on or get in the way.

⚡But when it comes to practicing things which can make our lives better, then we should do our best to find ways to make sure we practice it.

💥Some days we will succeed and others we wont and that's alright, we keep at it until doing it becomes our normal.

✨Happy Holidays everyone.

⛈With times getting tougher for many people, here is a meditation practice that is so great on so many levels.

🔥It is called belly breathing and helps to teach you to well belly breath, the natural way for humans to breath rather from our chest (I'll go into more detail about this in another post).

⚡Here is a simple and effective script for you to use:
👉Sit or lay comfortably.
👉Put a hand on your chest and belly.
👉Breathe into your belly, allow the belly to expand and rise.
👉Exhale through pursed lips letting the belly fall and contract.
👉The chest should not move at all or at least very little.
👉Do this exercise for about 5 to 10 minutes depending on your time constraints.

💥Belly breathing aids in controlling anxiety as well as using the entire lungs and learning to use your belly to breathe again.

🌿Breathing Meditations can cause light-headedness, and increase anxiety temporarily. If light-headedness persists, check with a doctor. They can also increase anxiety temporarily.

⭐️When we take a moment to slow down and live in the present moment, we realise that nature is patient and slow. It does not rush. It happens when it happens and yet everything that needs to be done is done.

🌿We can learn from nature to become aware of the processes all around us, that occur with or without our attention on them.

⚡️Next time you are out for a walk, stop, take a moment and look around you and see, feel the wind or the sun, hear the leaves rustling or the birds singing. Soaking in the beauty of nature, even if it's a single tree by the road, the fact that it exists surrounded by concrete and stone is amazing in itself.

👍Let me know how it goes.

⚡There seems to be an attitude that Mindfulness is an all or nothing cure for everything. If you meditate 30 hours a day then you will be a super person, or that it is a scam and a waste of time as it does nothing for you.

💥The reality is like everything in life is somewhere in between, no it will not make you super and heal every single wound you may have immediately nor will it do nothing.

🔥It is not supernatural, it works with nature, in that it gives your mind and body a chance to heal. Notice I say a chance, as it is also dependent on other factors such as mindset/attitude as well as how deep the wound is. You may also need counselling or physical therapy and Mindfulness is the support. For others, practicing Mindfulness as often as they can, may allow healing to occur without anything else.

✨But like everything in life, attitude is key. If you go into something thinking you will fail, you will fail. Same with Mindfulness, if you believe it won't work and keep telling yourself this, of course it won't work, you are literally doing the opposite of being mindful.

⛈We can all do with some tools to aid in these uncertain times.

⚡️While we meditate or live in the present moment, we will inevitably experience unpleasant thoughts and feelings. This is natural and important, as we need to process and acknowledge them, it is the only way to let them go.

💥However, sometimes it can be a lot, even too much and you may feel overwhelmed. That is alright, it happens.

⭐️It is how we react to it that is the true test. Will we try and force ourselves to continue what we are doing? Or will we stop and have a cookie?

🔥Or will we acknowledge what is happening with compassion and switch to another tool such as square breathing, to calm ourselves, clear the mind and begin anew when we are ready?

💫Which one would you choose? There is no wrong as long as you do not harm yourself in the process.

🌿That is simple to answer; as long as you are able to.

⭐️Let me explain, there is a difference between formal practice, think traditional meditations and informal practice, such as focusing on sensations in the shower.

🔥Informal practice is taking purposeful breaths throughout the day or noticing how your body feels or the wind on your skin. You are hopping in and out of the mindful state throughout the day. Slowly, with practice, you will be able to stay in this state longer and longer until being present is your default state. But that takes time.

💥They are both very important, as formal practice improves your informal practice. If you are to practice formal meditations, such as a body scan or breathing meditations, 10 minutes a day to begin, you will build a strong foundation. So with time, when you are washing the dishes or going for a walk, you are able to purposefully be in the present moment for longer.

👍It's tough at first, but you are capable of it. A baby step is still a step.

⚡️I can teach you this and more in my "Gateway to Mindfulness" course.

💥Stress is harming us and reducing our quality of life.

🔥There may be many things we do not have the power to change in our lives, but we do have the power to decide how we react to them.

☀But most of us are not taught those helpful tools, of which Mindfulness skills are one.

⚡My course, Gateway to Mindfulness will teach you some of the skills within Mindfulness.

⚡We might erroneously believe that if we ‘waste’ 30 minutes practicing Mindfulness it is pointless and could have been spent doing something 'productive'.

✨Doing any form of Mindfulness is productive. It allows our minds to slow down, to focus on the present moment, without the noise of the past and potential futures.

⭐This can lead to making informed decisions based on logic rather than fear or anxiety.

💥You actually gain time through Mindfulness. Think about how much time you waste, reliving the past, worrying about the future or just distracting ourselves from these anxieties.

🔥Practice 10 minutes a day and begin to take control of your life again. Check out my recent posts for a couple of good starting meditations.

🌿Following on from Monday's post, I thought I would give you another technique you can practise.

💥This one aids in focus and calms your heart rate quite fast. I like to refer to this tool as your break glass in case of emergency technique, as it is very useful in stressful situations where you need to focus and calm yourself quickly.

⭐️It is called Box breathing/Square breathing or 4x4 breathing. It's very simple to do, and it is very powerful:

👉Breathe in for 4 seconds.
👉Hold for 4 seconds.
👉Breathe out for 4 seconds.
👉Hold for 4 seconds.
👉Repeat for up to 1 minute.

🔥Give it a try and tell me how it went in the comments.

💫If you have lung or heart issues, seek medical advice before trying any breathing techniques.
💫If you feel lightheaded or dizzy, stop and breathe normally for a few minutes.
