Tips to get your dog donation-ready 🐶🩸

It’s completely normal for some dogs to feel a little nervous during their first visit. Often, they settle much better the second time as they become more familiar with the process.

A little training beforehand can make a big difference in helping your dog feel more relaxed and confident 💪

Want to make a real difference in animal health and welfare? ❤️

We’re looking for Donor Assistants to join our lifesaving team across the UK!

🩸 As a Donor Assistant, you will:
- Be part of our collection team at donation sessions, supporting our nurses and vet with the donor health check, donation, and post-donation tasks
- Help hold our donors during the donation and assist with donor monitoring
- Assist with blood tests and paperwork
- Help care for our wonderful dog donors during the process and ensure they and their owners have an enjoyable and positive experience

These are part-time roles, mostly covering weekend days, paid at £12.60 per hour.

The Midlands role is based from Loughborough and covers sessions across this region.
South West covers High Wycombe, Abingdon, Chichester, Alton, Wi******er, Godalming, and Twyford.
South East covers Canterbury, Maidstone, Godstone, Tunbridge Wells, and Gravesend.

Meet Ted, a 12 year old cocker spaniel who needed two lifesaving blood transfusions 🐕

Three years ago, Ted received his first transfusion after he became dangerously anaemic due to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) 😥

Recently, Ted had a serious flare up of his IBD, which wouldn’t subside with medication. This led to Ted having severe blood loss and needing a second lifesaving transfusion 🩸

His owner, Karen, said: ‘The closest match was administered to him and he was brought back to life, from a sad floppy thing that was slipping away, to his usual bright and barky self!’

And Ted isn’t just a survivor, he’s a lifesaver too! He helped detect cancer in his owner's other dog, Betty, giving her two extra happy years ❤️

Dogs like Ted need other healthy dogs to donate blood so that it is always there in situations like this. If your dog is aged between 1 and 8, over 25kg, and fit and healthy, they could be a lifesaver 🙏 Find out more at www.petbloodbankuk.org/welcome
