Dear all,
Today I would like to attract your attention over the so-called "sitting professions", which turn out to be quite problematic for the body when practiced for a long time. Sitting for a long time at a desk creates an unhealthy, hunched posture of the body, which escalates the problem over time. This "bended over" posture creates enormous tension on the back muscles, intervertebral discs, tendons and creates a vicious circle of problems. First, it starts with mild discomfort, slight tingling, etc. However, the pain appears, as a serious alarm signal from the body. Unfortunately, most people ignore it with the thought that, it will go away. But no, the pain is there and intensifies over the time, as well as the damage along the length of the spine. From there, the secondary symptoms, such as numbness in the limbs, burning and pain, intensify incredibly. Another problem is, the "sitting professions" simply forget to drink fluids, which escalates significantly the problem. Chronic dehydration leads to loss of elasticity of the intervertebral discs, rigid "hardened" muscles and tendons, which further worsens the situation. And when the PAIN permanently and acutely settles into their lives, only then the search for help begins.
Here you are some tips from me on how to protect yourself from these conditions:
1. Drink enough fluids, 30ml per kg. weight in 24 hours.
2. Get up and walk around every 1-1.5 hours.
3. Keep your back straight, at 90° to your knees, avoid slouching and resting your elbows on the desk.
4. If you have to stand for a long time, then request or buy a desk with a variable height, so you could periodically stand up and work upright.
5. Working with a mobile phone for a long time, this puts a lot of strain on your cervical and shoulder area and it is a matter of time for the pain to appear.
6. Take care of yourself, no one else will do it for you.
7. Practice some sport -swimming, calisthenics are excellent options to keep yourself active.
