Many men in Northern Ireland live under constant control without realising it is abuse.

Coercive control can include:

➡️Being told who you can see
➡️Having your phone checked
➡️Being isolated from family or friends
➡️Being threatened with losing access to your children, or interfering with access once out.
➡️Being constantly monitored or interrogated

Over time, this destroys confidence and independence.

Many men describe feeling trapped in their own home. Some develop anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts because they feel there is no safe way out.

Domestic abuse is not always physical.

Control is abuse, whether it is a heterosexual or gay relationship.

Mens Alliance are here to help in our online private MANi Support Group Network, thousands of men who have been there too. We have got your back, see www.MANi.Support for your regional group.

We will get you through this, because we have been there too.

The Mayo Association is proud to announce our Annual Sponsored Charity Walk taking place on Sunday 14th June 2026 at the beautiful Dunstable Downs.
Each year, we come together as a community to support important local causes, and this year we are honoured to be raising funds for two incredible charities that make a real difference to people’s lives.
Our 2026 Charities;
*Boxing Saves Lives *
A fantastic organisation helping families in our town by building confidence, providing support, and creating positive opportunities for young people and the wider community.
*Sundon Park Men’s Shed*
Dedicated to helping local men by giving them a safe and welcoming place to go, talk, work together, and build friendships and support networks.
This walk is more than just a day out — it’s about community spirit, support, and coming together to help others.
We welcome everyone to join us, whether you’re walking, sponsoring, or simply showing your support. 💚❤️Anyone who wishes to send donations please contact any of the Mayo Assoc committee or Patrice on 07944309824

We're still looking to get several mandatory roles covered before we can go ahead on Saturday.

We need:

Finish Tokens x1 (giving out finish tokens) ✅
Finish Token Support x1 (helping with finish tokens) ✅
Marshals x2
Barcode Scanning x1 ✅

We'd also like more help with pre-event setup (7.30 start) and closedown at the end (a possible volunteer and run/walk credit if you do both).

Afterwards in the Cricket Club there will be crumpets as well as your usual drinks available.

If you can help, please comment below or email us at lutonwardown@parkrun.com

I was a little distracted as we entered the last 8 weeks of marathon training, but I wanted to show my gratitude for some recent recognition I received. Being listed as 1 of 100 Men and Boys Champions in the United Kingdom is a huge honour, especially given some of the high profile names I’m alongside. Gareth Southgate, Lawrence Dallaglio and Stephen Graham of course stand out, but I’m equally as honoured to be amongst incredible people such as Alex Blower, Mike Nicholson, Rick Pomfret, Sonia Shaljean, and Sophie King-Hill to name just a few.

Fighting for men and boys is a lonely battle. Many organisations who call themselves “inclusive” are quite the opposite. Many don’t even see how they isolate men and boys. I’m here to highlight gaps and hold them accountable when needed. My experience of working in over 50 schools is that boys are too often labelled or even forgotten. That’s why I’ve developed the Build Back Boys program. To make boys masters of their own destiny without feeling they have to put themselves second every time. Boys deserve equality and a voice. I believe in getting the very best out of boys and men.

43% of Domestic Abuse victims in Luton are male and many of you will only have ever heard that statistic from me.

When men and boys are harmed in this way, the government counts this as “Violence Against Women and Girls”. This is what inclusion and equality looks like for us in 2026.

There has definitely been progress under this government, but the hard yards are still ahead. The best thing we can all do is raise awareness and talk about these inequalities. I was at a Male Domestic Abuse conference recently and more than half the attendees were women. True allyship happens behind the scenes, not played out on LinkedIn.

My allyship is grounded in actions. Our Girls Like Me program is already breaking down barriers for girls who are struggling with relationships, friendships, body image and harmful behaviours. Despite the prevailing narrative being about boys, many girls experience harm at the hands of other girls and I can’t walk passed that. I never have. Girls deserve better.

I teach children to be able to think two things at once, remain teachable and trust their instincts. They’ll be wrong sometimes, but far more often they’ll be right.

We can all be champions for men and boys.

God knows they need it.
