The Perry Clayman Project PCP Welcome to The Perry Clayman Project

The UK's leading private drug and alcohol rehab

I founded the Perry Clayman Project in 2005 with the belief that every person suffering from addiction should be able to access quality abstinence based treatment at an affordable cost. Many people who struggle with alcohol or drugs don’t see themselves as addicts.
They say things like, “I drink a bit too much, but I’ve got it under control,”
or “I just need to cut back. I don’t need help.”
It’s a way of denying that is not born from arrogance, but fear.
Fear...
Of being judged.
Of losing what feels like the only thing that helps.
Substance itself never creates happiness.
It only presses pause on the pain for a while.
Ask yourself: "What am I really looking for when I reach for this?"
The first step isn't giving something up.
It's understanding what it's been giving you.
Because that’s how you begin to replace relief with recovery.

How does someone drift so far away while sitting right next to you?
A promise of “I’m fine,” but their eyes say otherwise.
Even laughter doesn’t sound the same anymore.
And the silence between you grows a little each day.
One day, you realise you’ve been holding your breath around them for weeks,
Waiting for a version of them that feels familiar again.
Watching someone you love vanish in slow motion changes you.
You start to lose yourself somewhere between who they were and who they’ve become.
Addiction can rewrite everyone’s story, not just theirs.
But love... doesn’t mean fixing.
You can’t force change.
But you can make it safe for them to want it.

Early warning signs of addiction
Most families wait until it becomes messy before seeking help for their loved one.
They think: "It's just stress."
"Everyone drinks a bit more sometimes."
But those early changes are when it matters most to be present for them.
You don’t have to diagnose or confront.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is start a reassuring, honest conversation.
• Ask how they’re really doing
• Listen without trying to fix
• Let them know help exists, and that they don’t have to go through it alone
Waiting never makes it easier. Talking does.
