Today we held our first Menopause Education Event at The Arches!
We were privileged to have incredible speakers, all experts in their fields, who each so generously shared their extensive knowledge, expertise, and experience, to offer so many gems and tools.
🌟Emma Hammerton, our own Women’s Health physiotherapist at The Arches, talked about the all important topic of pelvic health in women, how it is affected in the menopause, and how we can prevent and overcome some of the common problems when the usual functions are challenged on account of dropping hormone levels. From learning about anatomy & physiology of the pelvic floor, to teaching a few simple pelvic floor exercises, and reminders about prioritising bone health, maintaining healthy levels of exercise, and to eat and drink well to maintain good bladder and bowel function were all covered!
🌟Dr Emma Ginns and Dr Mari Walling, Menopause & Lifestyle Medicine Doctors from Lemala Health, provided a walk through key aspects of menopause, HRT and alternatives, and how the menopause impacts women in many physical and emotional ways-but reassuringly, it can be managed! With advice on lifestyle adjustments, from nutrition, avoidance of alcohol, prioritising sleep, and exercise, they answered all manner of questions including, “Is there a maximum age to start/have to stop HRT?” (Answer - No!). A look at different lotions, potions, gels, patches, pills, and devices, gave an insight into the variety of options available to tackle menopausal symptoms!
🌟Dr Amanda Wilding, Sport & Exercise Psychologist, joined us remotely, talking about the connection of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, emotions, and mood, which affect all of what we are and what we do. When dis-regulated in menopause, finding ways to rebalance and restore a healthy mind-body connection, prioritise self care, and sleep hygiene is vital. And everyone was calm after a few breathing exercises!
🌟Diana Briggs, our new Counsellor at The Arches, spoke of her services to help women navigate through menopause
