This weekend saw the arrival of my ‘Reflexology to Support Women through Menopause’ certification. A very interesting and comprehensive CPD which has given me a greater insight into treating women with reflexology who are experiencing menopausal symptoms.
There are 5 pillars of health we can discuss during consultations for easing the menopause from perimenopause through to healthy aging. These are:
Nutrition
Movement
Managing stress levels
Getting good quality sleep
Find enjoyment and purpose
As well as life style choices, the good news is there has also been several studies showing that Reflexology is beneficial for some menopausal symptoms too including:
Reflexology is an effective therapy for sleep disorders and hot flushes in menopause.
Maryam Asltoghiri, Zahra Ghodsi, Procedia Social & Behaviour Science, Volume 31, 2012
Reflexology can be effective in decreasing vasomotor problems and increasing quality of life during menopausal period.
Gozuyesil E, Baser M, Complement Ther Clin Pract 2016
Findings indicate that the foot reflexology technique can be effective for reducing women’s depression during menopause
F Mahdavipour et al, Complimentary Therapies Medicine Volume 47, 2019.
Visiting a Reflexologist who is trained in reflexology for menopause means you will get optimum care. I am interested in hearing about how the menopause is affecting you, as everyone’s experience is different. Support is not just reflexology to the feet but maintaining unconditional positive regard, non-judgemental listening, and the ability to share knowledge, if you want to know more, about lifestyle changes.
As with all complementary therapies there is a cumulative effect so if you can have a few treatments close together you should see quicker results.
Everybody responds differently to reflexology – the only way to know how you will benefit is to try it!
