The Royal Oak, Fritham

We have been running the famous Royal Oak, Fritham for 20 years. The Traditional thatched pub serves real ales straight from the cask and Ploughman’s lunches from wonderful local produce. Famed for roaring log fires, being the Parliament of the New Forest and it’s amazing New Forest location, a place steeped in history, with visitors from near and far. But this year we started to think about the visitors who couldn’t enjoy the pub, who were missing out on visits to the Forest...just through the lack of a proper facility locally, because they couldn’t use the toilet!

Simple some may say, you have a disabled toilet, what’s wrong with that? Yes, we do have a standard disabled toilet, that more than fulfils building regulations and legal requirements. However this is not enough for everyone, therefore we are raising money to install a Changing place toilet at the Royal Oak. Without these proper Changing places, people with a disability have to stay at home or their family carers have to resort to changing them on toilet floors.

Changing Places have enough space for a disabled person and two carers, a full sized changing bench, a hoist, toilet with room on both sides, and most importantly are hygienic and allow a person to use the facilities for which we all have a basic need/right safely.
