The clinic is situated in the grounds of the magnificent Weir Bank Estate, former residence of Herbert Oppenheimer, surrounded by 16 acres of prime countryside, on the banks of the River Thames in Bray. Quietly tucked away, as a private aesthetics clinic, our location allows our customers to visit our clinic in private and confidence. Did you know that dry, autumnal weather can often make hyperpigmentation worse? 🤔

Although most commonly associated with summer, hyperpigmentation — the appearance of dark patches of skin due to an inflammatory skin condition can intensify during the cold months.

As the temperatures drop and the air loses its humidity, the skin becomes less hydrated and the skin barrier is compromised. This damages its ability to retain oil and water, making the skin itchy and irritated, which in turn may make it more prone to inflammation and hyperpigmentation.

Let's talk damaged skin barriers V.S. strong skin barriers👆

The skin barrier, skin's outermost protective layer, can be damaged from things like:

💥 Over-exfoliating
💥 Over cleansing, using harsh products that strip the skin of its natural oils
💥 Exposure to extreme weather (hot/cold)
💥 The natural aging process
💥 Some skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis

A damaged skin barrier is more likely to allow necessary moisture to escape and is less resistant to external stressors like pollution and allergens - which can lead to potential irritation, redness, and breakouts.

On the flip side, a healthy skin barrier is able to protect skin from external stressors and maintain absorption of much needed moisture!✨
