✨Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha✨

When I first came across this mantra, it was during my second trip to Mysore. We had a class where each student pulled a mantra from a bag to repeat silently to oneself during meditation that day. This was the mantra I pulled. It is an evoking prayer to Lord Ganesha, the remover of all obstacles.

Savouring every moment here practicing with my teacher, Guruji Vijay here in Mysore.

Today in class Guruji said to me ‘Lorraine, remember the times you did, not the times you did not.’ This was so beautiful to me🤍☀️ A reminder of a good lesson in life too, not just on the mat. How many times to we doubt ourselves (creating obstacles through our thoughts), or think of all we don’t have, versus being grateful for all we do have?

✨Can you breathe through challenges, rather than react or quit?

Can you think of all the times that you did, rather than didn’t?

Can you speak to your own heart, to yourself with love and kindness through the obstacles? Through it all?

This is where the yoga begins.

Be kind to yourself, mind chat matters. As one of my first yoga teachers, the amazing once told me in my first teacher training and in the words of Henry Ford, ‘If you think you can, or think you can’t, you are right.’ Grateful 🤍🙏🕊

Chapter one of my book ‘A year in India’ written. I realised throughout my yoga journey that journalling has been a very nourishing part of that for me. It soothes and nurtures the creative in me somehow.

Inspired by a book I have been enjoying slowly (haha) called Full Tilt, which is a travel journal, I started to plan out my book skeleton while living that year (and a bit) in India.

I am not sure how long it will take me to write my book, but I smile as I write it, remembering the wonderful adventures I had (and still do have thanks to my passion for yoga and travel/new places/experiences).

I am enjoying the soft, cosy energy of curling up in a cafe/bar with a warm drink and my laptop while writing this book. I genuinely feel grateful every day for being here. I never dreamed it possible to spend so much time dedicated to my passions, but somehow the universe is supporting my yoga journey. I extended my trip last summer due to delays at work on my start date and a mix up with my flight. It was that trip that my teacher took me to 2nd series, which was an honour to start under his guidance, instruction and blessing. Had my trip not extended it wasn’t going to happen that time.

I received an email from my bank yesterday, almost a year on, apologising for the delays regarding a partial refund on the extra paid for the flights. As an apology, reading my case they informed me that the full flight cost plus £200 and £13 interest was being refunded to me. The refund covers my change of flight, as well as accommodation & tuition fees for the extra weeks here. Call me a dreamer, but I truly believe that my yoga trips are supported by the universe. I am grateful.

I have recently noticed alot of people asking me about my time away, often saying they are intrigued to know more about my story.

The day I started writing in (in a local pub in the UK), I bumped into someone that asked what I was doing. When I explained, he said his ex has published many books and was a writer, then proceeded to offer me contact details should I decide to publish it.

I am writing this for me, but perhaps the universe wants me to share it. Watch this space ✍️

✨Every time we practice on our mat is different. Different energy, different mindset..sometimes it flows, sometimes we feel light, other times heavy in our bodies. The discipline is to show up, time and time again. ✨🕊

Photo flashback! Even as a child, I hated having my photo taken. Found these on my laptop today, some of the unedited pics from my first yoga shoot. I was lucky enough to know an amateur photographer, who actually does a very professional job and took these as a favour. I am glad I have these precious memories now.

✨Quite the mind, open the heart.

How do you quiet the mind?
You meditate
How do you open the heart?
You start to love that which you can love
And just keep expanding it

As if in each of us
There was once was a fire
And for some of us
There seem as if there are only ashes now
But when we dig in the ashes
We find one ember
And very gently we fan that ember
Blow on it
It gets brighter
And from that ember we rebuild the fire
Only thing that’s important is that ember
That’s what you and I are here to celebrate
That though we’ve lived our life totally involved in the world
We know
We know that we’re of the spirit

The ember gets stronger
Flame starts to flicker a bit
And pretty soon you realize
That all we’re going to do for eternity
Is sit around the fire ✨

Think of who created thought.
Why do you stay in prison
When the door is so wide open? ✨

Ekam inhale..and so begins another season in Mysore. I just registered at the shala and waited excitedly to see my Guruji teacher Vijay. I don’t know how to express the feeling of seeing my teacher again after 6 months away, countless hours of self practice. One word..actually three..peace respect gratitude. Thank you Guruji for welcoming me time and time again. Heart full dwe exhale..time to slow down and embrace all that this beautiful place offers me time and time again. Thank you India, with all my heart 🤍🙏🧘‍♀️

Just saw a post with alot of bad press on Ashtanga. I understand the perspective of the other person, but did find it misleading and instead of commenting on the post of someone I don’t know or follow, I wanted to share a little clarity/different perspective. Below are the points raised and my thoughts under each. Hope it dispels some misconceptions (in my view).

1) The 6 days a week rule is inflexible, unhealthy etc etc.

Ok, so this is a recommendation, not an enforcement. Everyone is free to practice when they chose, no ashtanga contract is written.. no one is going to get fined or taken away by ashtanga police. We have free will, as in life.

2. It’s unwelcoming as a community.

Well…you meet all sorts. Just have to find your people. Some you vibe with, some not. Just like life.

3. Teachers are dogmatic and old school.

Some yes, some no. Like all styles of yoga. Often we attract people because of where we are in life. Maybe we chose a teacher like that so we can learn boundaries..we chose our teacher. I tried many teachers in Mysore (controversial maybe) but each helped me learn valuable lessons on and off the mat and were there to teach me something at the time that I needed to learn. I knew I’d found my teacher when he built my trust and his energy resinated with me fully.

4. Its a performance not a practice

Well..it really depends on you. That’s your work if you feel you need to perform (sorry) and the right teacher will help you with that.

There’s more I could say, but essentially the practice is a wonderful life tool. The practice can be challenging and raw if done 6 days a week, because it confronts you with your thought patterns..but, like in life, you always have choices.

I teach with love and compassion. My values are that you should try, but not over effort. Its not about asana only. It is a moving meditation, an opportunity to connect within and to all around, to tap into peace and maybe unpick a few unhelpful patterns along the way because how we show up on the mat often mirrors off the mat. When we breathe and slowly face challenges with a calm mind, we undoubtedly cultivate more peace. This in turn effects everything.

Much love ###

✨Sat chit ananda✨

It’s been just over a year since I returned from my very long stint teaching & practicing yoga and dedicating my time to a more conscious way of living.

There’s no doubt that my year in India changed me and left deep imprints in my body and soul. You cannot un see. Travel in itself opens the mind, but dedication to a more spiritual way of life undoubtedly changes you further.

I have stayed true to practicing 6 days a week, exactly as my teacher taught me. I still feel incredibly rewarded by teaching, understanding now that it’s actually a two way exchange of energy. I don’t feel tired from teaching anymore, It energises me.

Sometimes this world still feels so crazy to me. My practice holds me during those moments.

Sometimes I get pulled into western ways of looking at what I haven’t achieved vs what I can be grateful for. When I flip it on the head though, I notice how much I have achieved and how much I have to be thankful for.

This isn’t a brag..this is a reminder that perspective is everything. Especially in an age of digital and work pressure to always be pushing for more. That’s because it makes money. But money doesn’t buy happiness.

I know we need money to pay bills etc, it’s why I work another job alongside my passion for teaching..but money isn’t everything. There’s more to life.

Yoga beings me back, time and time again, grounding me, nourishing me, expanding my awareness. I’m a teacher, but always a student.

I love what I do. I’m so grateful to have my passions in life. My life isn’t perfect, but I am grateful for what I have.

I hope I always keep learning and growing. Not in a material way, not in a ‘lets earn more’ way..in awareness, in peace, in sat chit ananda (existence, consciousness, bliss).

Come practice with me. 🤍🦋🧘‍♀️Thursdays 6:30pm Maidenhead Community Centre. No competition, no mirrors, just people sharing a beautiful ancient practice, taught from the heart 🧘‍♀️

✨New moon 🌙✨

I release the need to push too hard. Getting the balance between showing up consciously and letting go, allowing everything to fall into its natural place.

I open my heart, am not afraid to take up space and allow myself to be seen. ✨

Class was nearly at capacity tonight, as its just a cozy space that fits 8 maximum, so please book early to avoid disappointment. 🤍🙏

Mudra Om Yoga

Hi there!

Welcome to Mudra Om.

Yoga is my passion, that’s why I love to share it with others, so they may benefit too! I completed my 200 hr Teacher Training at Sampoorna Yoga School in Goa, where I qualified to teach Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga.

I combine aspects of the Ashtanga Primary Series with Vinyasa Flow, Sound Bowls (which stimulate the brainwaves to induce deeper relaxation) and Breath-work to help concentration, boost energy and build resilience to stress. I also love to incorporate Aromatherapy oils into a nice, deep Savasana!
