Lessons from Leo - An Arhuaco Mamo

~ Wisdom of an Indigenous Elder ~

During our recent trip to Colombia we were lucky enough to meet Leo, an Arhuaco Mamo.

The Mamos are the learned elders & spiritual leaders of the Arhuaco people who have been trained from a young age to live and work in harmony with nature.

Together with the other tribes of the Sierra Nevada - the Kogi, Wiwa and Kankuamo, they see themselves as the elder brothers of humanity & care takers of the earth.

For the Arhuaco people we are not separate from nature and are very much a part of it. They see all beings as equal, as brothers and sisters, parents and grandparents.

From the rivers to the fire, to the ants and the plants, all are part of the One and are treated with love, honour, dignity and respect.

Like many good things in life, our meeting with Leo was not planned and we were fortunate to be able to sit with him for a Cacao Ceremony.

Cacao is an indigenous medicine of the Arhuaco people that they have worked with for thousands of years. From the planting to the harvesting, the whole village is involved.

Whilst we were in ceremony I was able to ask Leo some questions and I want to share with you his answers as I believe they hold great wisdom for our times and how we choose to live our lives.

Lessons from Leo:

• “We must learn to live in harmony with nature, to live with the earth & not on it”

• “Smell is the sense that best heals the heart” - so take your time to smell your Cacao and surround yourself with the healing scents of nature.

• “Everything in life is Spiritual, there is no difference between things”

• “Cacao is here to heal us, she cleans us” - Cacao cleans our spirits, our minds and our hearts.

• “Cacao is good for marriage and union” - she helps to keep our hearts open and our relationships in balance.

The Arhuaco use cacao for marriage ceremonies to bring two lovers together in the right way. They also see marriage and the union of masculine and feminine as a sacred union that brings balance to life.

• “We are all one family, the birds, water, animals, the mountains, all peoples, they see the ants are their sisters”

With Love & blessings,

Do you know that our Peruvian Cacao is cold pressed and not roasted?

It is one of the few Ceremonial Cacao’s that is processed in this way, you won’t find another quite like it!

What does this mean in terms of taste & working with her?

Taste wise she is creamy and holds a lot of her original fat (butter) because nothing is lost in the roasting process.

Cold pressing this Cacao means the bean never goes above 40 degrees C so maintains all her nutrients and flavours.

It also means that the power and spiritual intensity of this Cacao is preserved making her a powerful teacher and ally on your path.

Try it for yourself, you will feel & taste the difference 🌿

The term Ceremonial Grade gets used a lot & you may well have seen it all over Social Media, but what does it actually mean?

Ceremonial Grade means that the Cacao is grown, harvested and processed in the most organic and respectful way possible.

Here are a few guidelines on what makes Cacao Ceremonial:

•The Cacao is Organic

•It is grown on biodiverse farms - never monoculture

•It is grown with lineage trees & lineage farms that are native to the area it is grown in.

•It is not a modern highbred strain or genetically modified

•It is harvested by hand

•It is fermented and dried by hand

•It is roasted at low temperatures to ensure the full potency and flavour of the Cacao.

When buying your Ceremonial Cacao make sure that it meets these standards, you’ll be able to taste and feel the difference if it doesn’t!

We are now back from our Colombia adventure and with us we have brought some beautiful new medicines and crafts.

The first of which is this incredible new Cacao from the Sierra Nevada region.

To the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada, this incredible land is the Heart Centre of the Earth & this is reflected in the Cacao that is grown there.

This special Cacao has a smooth and mild taste, once drunk you will feel it gently opening your Heart Chakra and soothing your mind making for a deeply calm and meditative experience.

This Cacao is grown on farms around the town of Minca and then lovingly processed by our friend Gloria into this incredibly gentle heart opening medicine.

We have been searching for something truely unique for a while and with this Cacao we have found what we were searching for.

If you would like to try this Cacao you can order from cacaosita.com/shop & please note we have a very limited stock at the moment.

Blessings,

Dom & the Team
