FREE - Family Learning days at WELLIES - FOR DERBYSHIRE RESIDENTS.

Wellies Project run therapeutic activities with animals, plants, creativity and the countryside for people with anxiety. We are piloting some activities with young people for two sessions in the summer holidays.

We will be campfire cooking, gardening, creating structures from Willow and doing a variety of crafts.

Join us for one or both days.

Importantly, this is a Family Day, and we warmly invite parents and carers to stay and take part alongside their children. (Min age 5)

Lovely celebration lunch today for the Floristry and Plant Science group as we approach the end of our course and reflect on our progress and what we’ve achieved. Potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, radishes and edible flowers from the garden. Cornflowers, love in a mist, canary grass, dahlias, snowberries and grasses also from the raised beds. We even made an ice bowl with edible flowers. Two learners made a sponge cake and we had fresh peaches and strawberries. So much came from what we’ve grown ourselves. 🌱🌱🌱

Floristry Materials Preparation Volunteer

We’re looking for a practical, hands-on Project Assistant or two, to help us prepare beautiful, fresh materials and sundries ( wreath frames, cones, ribbons ets ) for our winter wreath workshops. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in floristry preparation.

About the Role:

You’ll support our team by cutting, sorting, and preparing foliage and plant material ready for our creative classes. You’ll work 1 day a week, from September to December, and learn how to handle and care for a range of seasonal materials.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Cutting and collecting a variety of seasonal foliage (evergreens, berries, branches)

Sorting, cleaning, and conditioning plants to keep them fresh and ready to use

Bundling and organising materials for workshops

Maintaining tools, tidying the workspace, and ensuring quality standards

Learning about plant types and how to prepare them for floristry

About You:

✅ Practical and happy to work with your hands
✅ Physically able to work on your feet, lift bundles, and work outdoors
✅ Organised, with an eye for quality and detail
✅ Interested in plants, craft, or floristry (experience is welcome but not essential)
✅ A team player, reliable and positive

We have some gorgeous homemade summer fruit jam, tomato chutney and lemon or lime curd for sale. £3.50 per jar or 3 for £10. It can be collected from The Old Village Stores in Sudbury or we can deliver locally. All proceeds to the WELLIES Project. 🍓 🍋 🍅
