Hypnobirthing North Yorkshire

Hypnobirthing North Yorkshire Hypnobirthing courses online and live. Empowering couples to achieve the right birth for them on th Hi, I'm Sheryl, welcome to Hypnobirthing North Yorkshire.

My aim is to empower parents to be and their birth partners to achieve a positive birth which is right for you and your baby on the day. The last three years have been a very exciting journey for my husband and I. We have welcomed two children into the world, Thomas (2 ½) and Florence (1). Sometimes it is slight chaos but a lot of fun along the way!! I used Hypnobirthing for both of my births. I w

as the lady who feared birth probably from hearing too many negative stories! After doing a Hypnobirthing course I honestly was so excited to birth my baby! For me the understanding of how the body works during labour together with self hypnosis and relaxation techniques really made a difference. I look back on my births with such positivity. It really is amazing what your mind and body can do. I have had a wonderful career in paediatric nursing working in a variety of settings and challenging senior roles. I have worked in Cardiac Intensive Care for the last 13 years at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Having recently relocated to beautiful North Yorkshire to be closer to family, I am excited to introduce my new venture of teaching parents to be, Hypnobirthing, which I am very passionate about. I teach the Wise Hippo Birthing Programme, Hypnobirthing and all round preparation for the birth of your baby. I offer group and private courses as well as refreshers suited to you. What the course will give you:
 Emotional and practical support and preparation for the birth of your baby
 Understanding of the physical and psychological processes that occur in labour and birth
 Preparation for the role of the Birth Partner
 A sense of being ready to meet your baby and what to expect immediately after birth
 Alleviation of your fears, building confidence and belief in your ability to trust your instincts
 The tools learnt will enable you to remain calm, relaxed and in control during your baby's birth no matter what path your birthing takes
 Bonding and coming together as a family

🤰👶 Birth preferences 🤰👶

Discussing your birth preferences with your midwife will help you understand your options during labour and birth, including the risks and benefits of each option.

It also gives your midwife the chance to get to know you better, and understand your feelings and priorities, and allows you to think about or discuss some things more fully with your partner, friends and relatives.

‼️ You can change your mind about your wishes for labour and birth at any time. ‼️

You may want to think about things like:
💗 who you want as your birth partner
💗 where you want to give birth
💗 what birthing positions you would like to try
💗 what type of pain relief you want
💗 how you would like to deliver your placenta
💗 whether you are hoping to breastfeed
💗 if you would like any special facilities, such as a birthing pool
💗 whether you want delayed cord clamping
💗 what your choices are about having skin-to-skin contact with your baby
💗 your feelings about potential interventions, such as an episiotomy, ventouse or forceps
💗 if you intend to use hypnobirthing techniques during labour
💗 how you feel about fetal monitoring during labour
💗 if you have any special needs, such as a sign language interpreter, or if you would like to follow any religious customs
💗 what name you would like to be called if it’s different to the one on your notes.

Your birth preferences are personal to you. It depends on what you want, your medical history, your circumstances and what is available at your maternity service.

Have you thought about a homebirth? 🏡
Have you had a homebirth and like to share your experience?

Overall, within the UK giving birth is safe for both you and your baby. Whichever environment you choose to give birth the safety of both of you are our priority.

Research surrounding homebirths has found it is safe for healthy pregnancies with no complications between 37-42 weeks of gestation (term pregnancy).

For people who have had babies before it also found no change in birth outcomes for mother and baby between home birth and hospital.

Benefits of homebirth; increases chance of normal delivery, reduces intervention risk (assisted delivery and caesarean birth), more likely to know the midwife caring for you, be in your own home environment throughout birth and after creating a lovely oxytocin cocktail of hormones.

Pain relief is still available such as paracetamol, water, massage, tens machine and Entonox (gas and air).

If you are high risk and would like a homebirth, we would like to work with you and your consultant obstetrician to make a safe supportive plan of care.

Our team is supported by community midwives running a 24/7 model and service. There may be times where the service is suspended which may impact your homebirth. This may result in us advising you transfer to hospital for birth. We will always try to accommodate where possible to provide the care and birth plan you desire.

Ask a Midwife for more information, your place of birth matters 🏠
