Synopsis
Stepping Stones In The Mist – Life Lessons for overcoming adversity is my story. The title is a metaphor for my life. When the time is right the mist always clears and the next stepping stone or stage of my life reveals itself. As the new stone is revealed, so the mist closes in behind and in front of me (the past and the future) and I know that all I need to do is be present with my current situation, heed the lessons that life is presenting and trust that when the time is right the mist will clear and show me where I need to be next.
My story begins when I am 18 years old. The first eighteen years are touched on briefly in the introduction of how I lost my mother to cancer as a baby and was subsequently raised by an abusive step mother and a father who was absent in every sense of the word. But the book begins in earnest when I was eighteen because this was when I shuffled over into the driver’s seat in the vehicle of my life. It was from that point that every decision I made was mine and the choices I made were up to me.
The book tells of my adventures from age 18 to a couple of years ago when I was 43. It tells of my descent into dark places of drugs, violence, crime and homelessness and my life as a new age traveller. It tells of the pivotal point when I realised that I was not fit to call myself a father, to my son and how I began to take responsibility in the knowledge that it is up to me how my future unfolds.
