John Turner Wellbeing

John Turner Wellbeing I live in Worcestershire, looking out over the beautiful Malvern Hills, an area with a long history of promoting health and wellbeing.

I am really interested in helping people who want to make sustainable changes to their lifestyle that lead to them feeling healthier, happier and more balanced. I know that being in nature restores my wellbeing and I am still learning what else works well for me and what doesn’t. Learning when I need to slow down more and just rest. Or when I need to commit to action and get started. I have learnt that I serve myself well when I am strong physically, emotionally and mentally. Here are some of the things I try to do a little of everyday to keep me feeling healthy and well. Drinking plenty of water, eating nourishing food, moving my body, spending time in nature, spending time with my family, watching comedy and laughing out loud, listening to interesting podcasts, working on projects that improve the lives of others, slowing down, being still, breathing well, simplifying my home environment and resting. I wonder what your daily routine looks like and how it supports your health and wellbeing? What works well for you and what would you like to reduce or remove?

So, this week I've been looking at sentence completion in journalling.

Try this little exercise out to increase your self-awareness.

Simply finish this sentence

Competitive wellbeing.

I know, it sounds odd doesn't it. These words shouldn't really go together. But the more I listen to how people feel when they consider their own wellbeing, a critical voice often creeps into the conversation. Judging themselves against an imaginary standard that they should attain. Feeling that their wellbeing practise isn't good enough, or they should be doing it faster, longer, better.

Competition has it's place. But I wonder how it would feel if we took that pressure off ourselves to be the 'best version' and just be.

It's OK just to rest when you are tired and daydream with a cup of something. Don't let wellbeing be yet another thing you have to do when you are already tired.

I found this interesting section on the BBC that some of you might find interesting; a collection of information on all all things wellbeing.

It can be hard to know where to start when it comes to your mental wellbeing, but there are lots of tools that can help.

As I develop my understanding of what this vast concept wellbeing means to me, I have been struck by a widening gap.

There seems to be a gap between how people see wellbeing in their own lives and how it is portrayed in social media, lifestyle magazines, books, etc.

People see very polished, perfect, almost fairytale versions of what wellbeing is. Then they look at their own everyday life and can feel there is a gap between their reality and this perfect image presented to them.

I want to address this by focusing on wellbeing coaching for everyday life.

When you don’t have the time or energy to add yet another task to your busy schedule.

When you don’t have the money for an expensive gym membership or spa.

When you have tried to make changes to improve your wellbeing, but it just hasn’t worked.

I want to support you if you still feel there must be a way of making improvements to your wellbeing, but are just too tired or confused about which way to turn.

To support this I will be freezing my prices for the rest of this financial year. £50 per session, or a package of 4 sessions for £175.

I also offer a limited number of concessionary price sessions for those on low or no wage. This applies a 50% discount on individual sessions or packages.

My focus is on providing practical wellbeing coaching for everyday life.

Please get in touch if you would like to know more.

As we approach what is being dubbed 'Awful April' (due to price rises and cost of living pressures) I wanted to send a note of self-care.

Self-care to yourself as you navigate the extra pressures you may be facing and also care to others who you interact with. Life can feel hard enough, so give yourself a break and cut others a bit of slack too. It might just help.

Some more feedback from clients. I share this so that others can get a sense of what the experience feels like. It can seem like you are taking a massive step when trying something new. I believe testimonials serve as a way of making that step a little smaller, by reading what someone else experienced.

"I thoroughly recommend John. He helped me develop an exercise habit (which is still going strong!). He has a very calm and considered style of coaching which puts you immediately at ease. He knows his stuff and can adapt to suit your needs."

“I cannot speak highly enough of John and his coaching ability. What I needed was not necessarily guidance or advice, but simply someone to listen. I often find it difficult to share my thoughts and plans without people immediately jumping in with suggestions on what I should do. Sometimes, all you need is someone to listen and validate your thoughts and expectations. Although I only had a few sessions with John, it was clear that he is passionate about his role and genuinely committed to supporting others. Rather than offering direct advice, he helps you unearth the answers that already exist within yourself. His approach is thoughtful, empowering, and invaluable to anyone seeking clarity and self-reflection.”

Hi all, I thought I would share this as today is Time to Talk Day. There are some simple tips on this link to help you or someone you care about.

One I have picked out that I often fall foul of is the following...

Don't try and fix it:
Try to resist the urge to offer quick fixes to what someone is going through. Just talking can be really powerful, so unless they’ve asked for advice directly, it might be best just to listen.

Time to Talk Day is all about us being open to the idea of talking. We all have mental health and by having conversations about it, we can help ourselves and

Some more feedback to share from a client I worked with over several weeks. I am so grateful to those who put their trust in me and take a leap into the unknown. It takes courage. Thank you.

"John is very calm and patient and has a natural ability to listen and understand my feelings. Throughout the sessions he has given me tools that I have successfully applied in my daily life, increasing my confidence in my abilities and overall enriching my appreciation of life."

Pause...take a breath...keep going

This week I have started a new project. This is something I really want to do and yet I have felt at times a little overwhelmed by all the new information, new ways of doing things, new people I am meeting, and so on.

When starting something new this can evoke many responses in us. We may try for a bit, full of enthusiasm, only to stop after a short period of time.

You may be trying to start a new healthy habit or end an unhelpful one. You may have felt bad that you have missed loads of sessions/milestones/appointments.

My invitation to you is to just pause, take a breath and keep going. So what if you 'dropped the ball', you missed a session, you ate that food you weren't meant to.

Each moment we get to try again. Be flexible and celebrate momentum forwards.

I received some lovely feedback from a client that I wanted to share.

"I have just completed a series of health and wellbeing coaching session with John and quite simply it has been life changing. John has a very calm and kind nature, I felt he really heard me and helped me make some simple but hugely positive changes in my life. He is naturally empathetic and within the session I felt not only supported but also held up when we celebrated my wins. Thank you John for a wonderful experience. The changes are already integrated into my everyday life and are making a huge difference."
