Are you a mid-level professional looking for your next move?
Based in the North West and thought Media City was a closed shop?

BBC are looking to change that with an exciting event on 23rd March!

“Representing the North” is an evening in Salford dedicated to exploring BBC careers in the North West and widening participation and representation across the creative industries.

You’ll get to meet teams and explore opportunities across the twenty-six departments based in Salford, hear from BBC creatives, and have the chance to be heard yourself, in group discussions and networking with members of BBC staff communities, recruiters and hiring managers.

The event is a chance to join fellow creatives from outside the London Bubble to discover how the BBC works behind the scenes, and build meaningful connections with teams driving creative output in the North.

Ramadan and Lent are here, and Pesach is only 40 days away. When you support colleagues who are observing a fast or giving up their favourites, you also support colleagues with year-round requirements around food.

As an employer, conversations around dietary requirements can become complicated very quickly. It’s important to respect and accommodate food-related requests wherever possible, but here are some ways to make that easier from the outset:

• Centring events, everyday “treats” and rewards around something other than food.
• Offer flexibility around times for eating and bringing in food.
• Provide a space for employees to store specialist foods safely.
• Be open to requests based around dietary requirements.
• Allow employees to work from home, or at least away from areas where food is prepared and eaten.
• Offer flexible working to support parenting, caring or faith commitments, and attendance at relevant medical  appointments.
• Invest in Mental Health First Aid training to equip your team to provide first-line support for colleagues.
• Accommodate sensory sensitivities - e.g. limiting strong smells.

As a co-worker you can model inclusion around food by:
• Accepting the first time when a colleague declines food.
• Accepting that a colleague may eat different foods or at different times of the day for a range of reasons.
• Accepting when a colleague keeps or prepares their own food separately.
• Respecting that food choices can be deeply personal.
• Respecting when a colleague does not want to be near food.
• Accommodating sensory sensitivities - e.g. limiting noisy eating.
• Showing curiosity is fine, but respect people’s boundaries and keep any conversation about people’s food choices between you and that person!

Concerns around food in the workplace - or a workplace’s attitude to food - can be a major barrier for some people. We can help you take meaningful action, as a key but often underappreciated part of creating an accessible and inclusive workplace.

Ramadan and Lent are here, and Pesach is only forty days away. When you support colleagues who are observing a fast or giving up their favourites, you also support colleagues with year-round requirements around food.

As an employer, conversations around dietary requirements can become complicated very quickly. While they could be a matter of choice, they could also be related to a protected characteristic or potentially a life-threatening allergy.

It’s important to respect and accommodate food-related requests wherever possible, but here are some ways to make that easier from the outset:
- Centring events, everyday “treats” and rewards around something other than food.
- Offer flexibility around times for eating and bringing in food.
- Provide a space for employees to store specialist foods safely.
- Be open to requests based around dietary requirements.
- Allow employees to work from home, or at least away from areas where food is prepared and eaten.
- Offer flexible working to support parenting, caring or faith commitments, and attendance at relevant medical appointments.
- Invest in Mental Health First Aid training to equip your team to provide first-line support for colleagues.
- Accommodate sensory sensitivities - e.g. limiting strong smells.

As a co-worker you can model inclusion around food by:
- Accepting the first time when a colleague declines food.
- Accepting that a colleague may eat different foods or at different times of the day for a range of reasons.
- Accepting when a colleague keeps or prepares their own food separately.
- Respecting that food choices can be deeply personal.
- Respecting when a colleague does not want to be near food.
- Accommodating sensory sensitivities - e.g. limiting noisy eating.

Showing curiosity is fine, but respect people’s boundaries and keep any conversation about people’s food choices between you and that person!

Concerns around food in the workplace - or a workplace’s attitude to food - can be a major barrier for some people. We can help you take meaningful action, as a key but often underappreciated part of creating an accessible and inclusive workplace.

Love is in the air and we have a proposal for you…

Some people don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day because they believe that you can and should express your feelings throughout the year, just like “awareness days” aren’t a good substitute for meaningful action. You can demonstrate your commitment to your loved ones, whatever type of relationship that is, by doing and saying things that make them feel seen and cared for all year round.

So how about doing the same for your disabled employees?

Demonstrate your commitment to inclusion, whatever barriers your employees are facing, by partnering with Patchwork Hub. We can help you take meaningful action to show them you see them and you care.

You don’t have to give us a ring - you can get in touch at patchworkhub.org/contact, or by emailing hello@patchworkhub.org.

Are you an undergraduate student or did you go straight from school into work?
Are you interested in using your research, analysis, and communication skills to make a difference at the highest level?
Our friends at have just the event for you! On Wednesday 18th February at 3:30pm, in collaboration with others in the industry, they are hosting a webinar on ‘Working in the Think Tank Sector.’
Here’s what they have to say:
“Think tanks are research organisations that develop ideas and suggestions for action on a whole range of subjects affecting society. Using research, analysis and commentary, we aim to inform and influence politicians, policy makers and the public.
Given the economic, social and political issues facing the UK, ensuring the world of research and policy-making is populated by a variety of talented individuals with diverse views and backgrounds is more important than ever. To contribute to achieving greater representation, a group of think tanks and similar organisations join together each year to hold a webinar for undergraduates or those with similar experience interested in working in the sector.”
The webinar is for disabled people and those with long-term conditions, people from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups, young adults with caring responsibilities (including young parents), mature students, people from lower-income backgrounds, care leavers and LGBT+ students.
