Mind and Body Toolbox I’m Lorraine, a Personal Trainer & Online Coach specialising in helping women 40+ lose weight sustainably while navigating the chaos of menopause.

I focus on building habits, hormone balance & mindset over quick fixes. DM me to start your training! I am a Level 3 Personal Trainer as well as a level 2 Fitness Trainer. You will find me mostly at Empowher Strength and Fitness Studio in Heald Green or at The Forum in Wythenshawe. I also offer a MOBILE Personal Trainer service for those who can't get to the gym or are gym shy. I am friendly, easy to get on with and I have a positive attitude.

Anthea has only been with me for 6 weeks and she’s already feeling stronger, more confident and finally seeing the results she’s been chasing for years.

Before working with me, she was at the gym all the time, smashing classes, eating what she thought was healthy and doing the same as her daughter but nothing was shifting. Her daughter’s body was changing, hers wasn’t. She felt frustrated, demotivated and stuck, unsure what she was doing wrong.

She’d been coming to my classes for ages and said she knew how much effort, attention to detail (and personality!) I put in, so she reached out.

We stripped everything back and focused on what actually works for women over 40.
She was doing too much cardio, not enough strength. We added proper resistance training, made her workouts more efficient, and tweaked her nutrition - nothing extreme, just smarter. She still eats with her family, but now knows how to balance her meals. I’ll never forget her saying she was having homemade mac & cheese and me asking, “Lovely… but where’s the protein?” She still hears that voice in her head now!

Fast forward 6 weeks and she’s more confident in the gym, stronger, lifting with great form and doing even better in her classes (especially those biceps!). Her mindset’s stronger too and she knows it’s not about perfection, it’s about consistency.

And now, her daughter’s joined coaching too after seeing how well her mum’s doing. Different goals, same approach - sustainable, realistic and built on education and confidence.

How special is this…

My client Breda has just absolutely smashed her Manchester Half Marathon with a new PB of 2 hours 15 mins and she’s dedicating that medal to me!

She’s already run two other half marathons this year at 2.35 and 2.25 but this time was different.

This time she was prepared.

This time she had a plan that actually worked for her.

In just a few short weeks of coaching, Breda noticed her Park Runs getting faster, her legs staying stronger for longer, and her energy lasting right to the end.

We focused on the three things most runners overlook:

✅ Smart nutrition
✅ Targeted strength training
✅ Proper hydration

The difference those three make is massive and her half marathon time proves it.

Hearing her say that my guidance has made such an impact in her life, and that she’s dedicating that medal to me, honestly means the world.

I might not let her get away with much (she’ll tell you that!), but this is exactly why I do what I do.

What’s green, furry and helps you sleep?
Stick with me because this one’s worth knowing.

Last night I woke up at stupid o’clock and could not get back to sleep. You know that feeling when your brain is switched on, body wide awake, thinking about everything from tomorrow’s to-do list to what you said in 2004.

Now luckily this doesn’t happen often for me, but for a lot of women over 40 (especially during menopause) broken sleep is a nightly battle.

And here’s the thing - if your sleep is off, everything else follows.

You wake up tired, reach for sugar or caffeine, skip your workout and by the evening you’re knackered and ordering a takeaway.

It’s not laziness. It’s biology.

Poor sleep messes with your hunger hormones, increases cravings, raises stress levels and makes fat loss so much harder than it needs to be.

That’s why when I start working with clients, sleep is one of the first things we tackle. It’s the foundation for everything else - mood, energy, and sustainable fat loss.

And here’s where my little green furry friend comes in…
Kiwi fruit!

It naturally contains melatonin and serotonin, which help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

One of my clients messaged me last week saying she slept for 8 hours for the first time in years after adding kiwi to her evening routine.

So if you’re over 40, battling poor sleep, hormones or stubborn fat - don’t just push through it.

This amazing lady is living proof that age, injury or circumstance don’t have to define what’s possible.

After a serious car accident in 1983 left her with nerve damage to the spine, she was told she’d never walk again. But here she is – walking, swimming regularly, and even winning medals.

When she came to me recently, it wasn’t because she wanted to lose weight, but because she was actually losing too much from being so active.

Together we looked at her nutrition, made a few simple adjustments and built a plan to keep her strong, healthy and fuelled for the lifestyle she loves.

Her words honestly mean the world to me:

“What can I say, it was lovely to meet you and discuss my weight loss because of all the training I do. The plan you set out before me was excellent, we made slight adjustments here and there and all my questions answered. You are passionate about your subject, very informative and during our time together I learned a lot. Your enthusiasm and support are infectious, I’m definitely in safe hands and looking forward to sharing my journey with you.”

Stories like hers are a reminder that the human body is remarkable and with the right guidance and mindset, you can always go further than anyone expects.

I’m not perfect and don’t want to be!

People assume that because I’m a coach I must eat perfectly and train every day. Well, I don’t! And I don’t expect my clients to either

Chasing perfection just makes you want to quit. You end up feeling like you’re failing, even when you’re actually doing great.

That used to be me too. Now I focus on balance, not restriction

I eat mostly healthy. I don’t drink as much as I used to. But I still enjoy the things I love. That’s what keeps it sustainable

At 52 I’m stronger now than I was 10 years ago. I feel good in my clothes, I’ve got more confidence and I know I’m setting myself up for my 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond

And here’s why it matters… my mother-in-law can’t get herself up after a fall. She never exercised, lives on biscuits and cakes, and now she’s paying the price.

That’s not the future I want for myself, or for the women I work with

You only fail when you stop. What you do most of the time is what shapes your strength, your energy and your confidence.

Consistency beats perfection every time
