Self Care Creatives turns 3 this week, and the last 12 months have been an incredible year of collaboration.

Over the past year we’ve hosted 118 community workshops, worked on 12 paid partnerships, and collaborated with 14 community groups and CICs.

From local venues and artists to grassroots organisations and community spaces, every partnership has helped us reach more people and create more opportunities for creative wellbeing.

We truly believe the best community work happens together.

Thank you to everyone who has invited us into their space, partnered with us, or supported what we’re building in the community.

At the beginning of the project, everyone created vision boards to map out what they wanted to explore creatively.

Macramé kept coming up.

So we listened.

This workshop was one of those ideas brought to life — learning new knots, experimenting together and creating something with our hands. One of the things we love most is that so many of our workshops start with the ideas of the people who join us.

A little creative time out this Saturday ✨

We’re heading to Gallery Oldham for a special Introduction to Thread Journaling workshop at 10.30am, and we’d love you to join us.

If you’ve ever been curious about turning little memories, moments and feelings into stitches, this class is a gentle place to start. We’ll share simple techniques to help you begin your own thread journal — no pressure, no rules, just creativity and a bit of self-care time.

You can join in two ways:
• £40 – Kit + Workshop (includes your thread journal starter kit worth £25)
• £15 – Workshop only if you’d prefer to bring your own bits

The session lasts around 2 hours and is suitable for complete beginners or experienced stitchers — just think of it as a relaxed creative pause in your week.

Places are limited so if you fancy joining us, you can book here:

Self Care Creatives turns 3 this week, and the last 12 months have been our biggest yet.

Over the past year alone we’ve personally hosted 967 workshop participants — a 62% increase on the previous year — and more than 1,500 people have attended our events.

That’s hundreds of people slowing down, making something with their hands, and connecting with others through creativity.

What started as a small idea has grown into a community of people who believe creativity can support wellbeing.

Thank you to everyone who has come to a workshop, brought a friend, shared a post, or supported what we do.
You are what makes this community so special.

A little moment of reflection as Self Care Creatives turns 3 this week.

These are our High Five project photos — one from each of the big community projects we’ve delivered over the past three years.

Each photo represents hundreds of conversations, cups of tea, creative moments and people coming together to make something meaningful.

From the first stitches and doodles to the final exhibitions and celebrations, these projects have been shaped by the incredible people who have joined us along the way.

And to make it even more special, Kate Fox created a beautiful doodle version of the photos to celebrate the journey.

Looking at these together reminds us just how much can grow from a simple idea — creativity, connection, and a community built around making.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of it.

The Self Care Squares: Patchwork of Positivity exhibition is still on display this week and next at .

Each artwork you see began with a simple but powerful step — participants creating their own vision boards. These boards helped people explore what self-care meant to them, the colours and symbols they were drawn to, and the feelings they wanted their square to hold.

From there, every square became a small personal project. People chose their own imagery, stitches and materials, slowly turning their ideas into something tangible.

What you see in the exhibition isn’t just embroidery — it’s hundreds of individual moments of reflection, creativity and care, stitched together by our community.

If you haven’t visited yet, there’s still time to see the exhibition over the next couple of weeks.

Every square tells a story.

Sometimes the loveliest things to stitch are the simplest.

Soft clouds. Tiny stars. A little piece of sky captured in thread.

In our Clouds & Constellations embroidery class we’ll be creating fluffy cloud textures and delicate star stitches in a design that feels calm, dreamy and full of possibility.

You can stitch it into your thread journal, or create a standalone piece with one of our optional kits.

We’ll also be sharing a full video tutorial and PDF design afterwards so you can recreate the piece again at home.

It’s our 3rd Birthday at Self Care Creatives CIC! 🎉❤️🍰

Three years of creativity, care, connection, and community joy — and our hearts are so full today.

Thank you to every single person who has supported us, collaborated with us, joined a workshop, shared a moment of encouragement, or simply walked into our spaces with an open heart.

You’ve helped shape a community where creativity feels accessible, self‑care is celebrated, and everyone is welcome exactly as they are.

We are so, so proud of you all — of the joy you’ve sparked, the self‑care you’ve prioritised, and the gentle magic you’ve created together.

What an absolutely incredible three years it’s been — and what a dream team to grow with.

Self Care Creatives CIC began with Steph, our founder and embroidery and watercolour artist, whose vision was to open up creative wellbeing so more people in our community could access the arts. Tracie is our director and our powerhouse of business development and behind‑the‑scenes brilliance, keeping everything moving with heart and intention. And then Kimmy joined as director, bringing a love of journaling, vision boards, and all things paper based.

Together, this little team has built something we’re so proud of — and it’s all been shaped by the people who’ve supported us, shown up, shared joy, and made this community what it is.

Here’s to more creativity, more connection, and more moments that lift us all. 💛✨
