Being an Independent self employed Midwife .. keeping track of one's own accounts, stock, medical supplies and equipment, always learning and keeping up-to-date. Most important of all being with ones's client through thick and thin, supporting helping, navigating through challenges and celebrating the triumphs. Thank you to all the families who have chosen me to be their Midwife.

What do I do for down time? Creativity is therapeutic for me. I spent a creative day making a wreath, nappy cake and gift wrapping. Although to be fair I had to make time for this, what with the Christmas season almost upon us, helping daughter move house, running a workshop in London and attending my Aromatherapy course...

Child birth journey, mindful of the different paths this can take, persistence, perseverance and working through the challenges, as the midwife always watchful ready to support when needed. Did anyone see the tractor blocking the path in the previous post?
Hmmm. Well he kindly stopped, reversed into a side path and let me pass. So yes, challenges can appear, but they can be resolved with you still feeling in control, empowered and proud of all you have achieved!!πŸ€—

This is so true. It is so so important that mothers are given the time needed to really think, discuss with whoever they choose, about what they would want to do with the information that a test, exam, check up reveals and how they would then wish to act if at all. Totally vital if one truly respects women's informed choice.

I hear from many women who really wish they had understood the consequences of having certain tests carried out.

One of those that has the most impact is GBS or Group B Strep testing.

These days, it is all too common for women to be handed a urine pot by a GP’s receptionist without being given appropriate information.

They aren't told that they are being offered a screening test.

No-one tells them that the outcome of the test that will be carried out might have a huge impact on the options and care that will be available to (and in some areas denied to) them and their baby.

They aren't told about the long-term consequences of antibiotics.

Or that the result of their test may affect their options for years to come.

Even in future pregnancies.

As I often say, this isn’t about telling women what they should or shouldn’t do.

None of us can decide what’s right for someone else.

Some women really want GBS testing.

But others don't.

Or wouldn't if they were given the full facts.

It’s about ensuring that everybody has all the information before they decide whether or not to have a test.

Any test.
