Tune in this Friday at 1pm on ALL FM 96.9, or catch up later on Mixcloud and Spotify, for a brand new episode of The Joy Ethic Show.

This episode brings together some of the communities and creative projects that have been real highlights of my year. We begin with a piece from Me Time Tameside, a group of adults with learning disabilities who have been learning podcasting at ALL FM.
https://bcped.podbean.com/

We then head to Altrincham United Reformed Church for a first look at their new wellbeing, arts and faith programme launching in January. Sessions take place at 81 Cecil Road, Hale, and you can contact Dave at outreach@altrinchamurc.org.uk for more details.

Later, I’m joined by Manchester musician and artist Ruby-Ann Patterson, founder of The Joyful Body, a monthly movement practice held at St Barnabas Church in Chorlton. You can find her on Instagram at

We finish with a moment from the Spirit of Manchester Awards, shared by Deepa from the Meet the Mancunian podcast https://www.meetthemancunian.co.uk/

💫 Two weeks until the Community Radio Awards 2025 ceremony! 💫

The Me Time Podcast (in partnership with the Joy Ethic Show and made possible by ALL FM 96.9's funding, support and general wonderfulness) is up for a national award! This podcast was born from an inclusive training project at ALL FM, where participants developed skills, confidence, and friendships while producing their own shows.

One of our presenters said:

“I feel like people are listening to me properly for the first time.”

That’s what it’s all about. 💜

✨ Scroll and Stream Free September ✨

I decided to give myself a break from Netflix, Prime and YouTube this month. No rabbit holes, no “just one more episode.”

Here’s what surprised me:
🌿 My attention span came back. I finished Brave New World for the first time in 30 years.
🌿 I felt calmer, laughed more at home, and even fixed the washing machine one day without getting stressed out!
🌿 I got back to the gym and up to 5k running after two years - very slowly but I am so so proud.
🌿 My evenings felt richer — painting, gardening, cooking, listening to podcasts instead of background noise.

It wasn’t about discipline. It was about creating capacity and noticing cravings as signals. Read more here https://www.joyethic.com/post/scroll-and-stream-free-september-what-i-did-why-i-did-it-and-what-i-found

I’m curious — what small swaps or pauses have made space for you recently?

🌿 A big thank you to the brilliant Zainab Amer () for this beautifully written and thoughtful piece about Stories of Our Lives and the wider work of Joy Ethic.

She captures the heart of what we do so sincerely – the quiet power of being listened to, the joy of connecting across generations, and the value of storytelling for its own sake.

Zainab, thank you for taking the time to listen so deeply and reflect it all back with such care. It's a rare gift.

What is all this about then?

This page started off as a way to express my thoughts and feelings on living a full and balanced life but with the space it offered me to create and express, soon became a launching pad for lots of other ideas. Recently one idea has really blossomed and that is of Joy Ethic becoming a social enterprise (which basically means a business with a social purpose).

So! One arm of Joy Ethic Ltd is now acting as an co-ordinator for talented and principled wellbeing facilitators to get into organisations and spread happiness by doing their wonderful thing. The other is community based and its ethos is wellbeing for all though supportive, connecting activities like Stories of Our Lives, a writing project which will record the lessons, memories and tales of older people in the Chorlton area.

I hope you enjoy reading the content I put on here and will let me know what you would like to get involved with and see more of.

Lots of love
