This special display is a celebration of the history, people, and places that shaped our community. We’ve gathered old photos of Reddish – from the iconic mills to long-lost shops – and put them together as a walk down memory lane… and Oakley is proudly front and centre, inviting you to take part too. 🌰💜

Every morning before the first service, Oakley walks the chapel grounds. He checks the flowers, straightens the chairs, and gently brushes away the fallen leaves from the steps.

To anyone watching, it might seem like routine. But to Oakley, these small acts are part of something much bigger.

“You see,” he once said, “grief is heavy. So if I can make someone’s morning just a little lighter—by making sure the chapel is warm, welcoming, and calm—then I’ve done something that matters.”

A Legacy of Care: Oakley and the Stone Gatepost Post Box

As the hearse turned into Manchester Crematorium, Oakley’s eyes settled on the simple post box built into the old stone gatepost. To many, it was just another detail. But to Oakley, it was a symbol of generations of care.

As a child, he remembered Grand Acorn lifting him up to post important paperwork—documents that gave families reassurance in their hardest moments. Years later, Oakley did the same with his own children, passing down not just a tradition, but a promise: to guide families with dignity, just as his father had before him.

Some things change with time, but others—compassion, responsibility, and the commitment to care—will always remain.
