Sharing a gorgeous reflection - written by our lovely midwife Fatimah 🩷

“This morning at 06:02, as the sun was beginning to rise, I witnessed a new life enter the world.

A quiet waterbirth.

The soft light of the sunrise glistening across the surface of the pool.
A woman turned completely inward, focused, trusting her body with a calm strength that felt sacred to witness.

I have supported countless births. It’s part of my everyday life.
But sometimes there are moments where it feels like you are seeing it all for the very first time again.

Where the miracle of it lands on your heart differently.

Standing there, watching this baby come into the world, I felt overwhelmed with awe. Not just at the strength of the mother, but at the Creator behind it all.

How perfectly everything is designed.
How instinctively a woman’s body knows what to do.
How life arrives so gently, yet so powerfully.

And then that quiet moment afterwards.

The baby placed skin to skin on his mother’s chest.
Calm, eyes wandering softly… just looking at her, learning her and resting in her all encompassing love.

As if the whole world paused.

In that silence, it felt impossible not to see the divine in it.
The utmost perfection of creation.

I began my fast this morning helping bring new life into the world.
And I left that room feeling completely full.

Full of gratitude.
Full of wonder.
Full of the quiet, overwhelming awareness of God.

Some moments remind you that what you’re witnessing isn’t just physiology.

It is something far greater. 🧡🌻✨

BIRTH CENTRE FEEDBACK 🩷

“Hi, I just wanted to send a quick message to share some feedback and gratitude to everyone at the birth centre but especially to Abby and Izzy, who delivered our son Alfie on Friday. It was a pretty fast birth and I was 8cm when we arrived so things happened quite quickly.
I’m so grateful to Abby and Izzy for their care and encouragement, they were truly amazing. They kept me completely informed and calm about every decision, even when things were a bit chaotic and I felt so supported and uplifted by them both to get through the birth. Thank you so much for helping me deliver our son safely, the job midwives (and all the staff) do is incredible and I feel so grateful for the positive experience I’ve had. ❤️ THANK YOU ❤️”

Physical touch can be one of the most powerful ways to support someone in labour! 🤍

Touch isn’t just comforting, it actually helps release oxytocin, the love hormone that drives contractions! It can help boost natural endorphins (hormones that help reduce pain and stress) and can help labour progress physiologically.

But remember! It’s not one size fits all.
Always check what feels good, and follow her lead.

Examples of physical touch in labour:

• Light massage (with hands or tools)
• Gentle strokes along the back or arms
• Firm counter-pressure (hip squeezes, sacral pressure)
• Holding her while she sways or leans forward
• Abdominal lift and tuck (with midwives guidance)
• Massage oils or warm scented flannels
• Brushing hair away from her face
• Holding hands or offering a steady shoulder to lean on

Support that isn’t direct touch but still comforting:

• Pouring warm pool or shower water over her back
• Helping position a TENS machine
• Using acupressure balls or a birth comb
• Adjusting pillows, wedges, or birth balls for comfort
• Supporting upright positions and movement

We’ll be sharing 5 labour love languages over the fortnight💛
Send this to your birth partner for some Valentine’s inspiration!
