Weekly Round Up! 🫶

Remembering the importance of structure, balance and routine (with a little help from Nelly the Neurone) during my first ā€˜normal’ working week for a while after Christmas and Jury Duty. Looking forward to an exciting year ahead!

One of the least talked-about parts of Bipolar recovery is grieving mania, or even wanting it back. šŸ™ƒ

Especially when depression is heavy, or when stability feels unfamiliar.

This isn’t weakness.

It’s part of learning that your nervous system doesn’t need extremes to feel alive.

More Insights to come in part 2. 🫶

Share if you think ā€˜eh, I’ can relate to this. 🧠

Although it can be tempting to use AI as an outlet to soothe anxiety, it is important to understand this is only temporary relief and often strengthens the anxiety cycle. By seeking answers or reassurance via AI, you are ā€˜telling’ your brain that the anxiety was right, there was a need to act out of fear, when this is often not the best approach. Start breaking the anxiety cycle today and resist the urge of using AI to soothe your emotions, what goes up will come down. šŸ”

Not all types of therapy works the same for every condition and OCD is a great example of that.

ERP isn’t about pushing people into fear. It’s about helping the brain relearn safety without compulsions. When OCD is treated with reassurance (even unintentionally), symptoms can actually strengthen over time.

If you’re seeking help for OCD, make sure the approach and the training behind it truly fits the problem.

Save this. Share it. Let’s help make something like accessing therapy which is already very difficult, that little bit easier! ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

For many people with OCD, over sharing or over explaining can function as a compulsion. Often used as a way to reduce anxiety about potentially being misunderstood, judged, or seen as ā€œbad.ā€ šŸ—Æļø

The relief tends to be short-lived, which is why the urge to explain often comes back stronger next time.

ERP within CBT focuses on noticing the urge, resisting the compulsion, and learning that you can tolerate uncertainty without fully explaining yourself.

This isn’t a personality flaw.
It’s a pattern, and patterns can change. šŸ”

Some New Year Reflectionsā€¦šŸŖž

From chaotically creating this logo in 2018 (during what was on reflection some interesting mood fluctuations) to relaunching this year with real intent after lots of hard work both personally and professionally.

This year has been filled with some incredibly challenging but exciting milestones that are easy to skip over when in the thick of it all, so taking some time to acknowledge that there is still a long way to go for sure, but also appreciating what has already been achieved.

A huge thank you for all of your support along the way and I’m so excited to share with you the what the next year has to offer. Appreciate you all immensely and hope you find the time to do some healthy reflection yourself in whatever way suits you best.

Happy New Year & Stay Level Headed! 🧠

🧠 The Mental Crusher 🧠

Imagine a crusher sitting at the entrance to your belief system.

Its job is simple: only let in information that fits what you already believe.

If the core belief is ā€œI’m not good enoughā€, the crusher only allows in evidence that confirms it.
Mistakes, criticism, rejection - straight through.

But achievements? Praise? Success?
That information doesn’t fit the shape… so it gets rejected or distorted.

You might downplay achievements
- ā€œThat wasn’t a big deal.ā€
Or explain away praise
- ā€œThey’re just being nice.ā€
- ā€œThey feel sorry for me.ā€

Just like crushing a shape to make it fit, the mind reshapes reality to protect the belief.

So even when strong evidence exists that you are capable, worthy, and enough - the belief stays untouched.

This isn’t stubbornness.
It’s how maladaptive beliefs survive.

Awareness is the first step to loosening the crusher.šŸ’Ŗ

This is often a response to someone setting healthy boundaries, which couldn’t be more important in looking after your mental health at this time of year.šŸŽ…

Sometimes those that were overstepping them don’t like it when you change, but those that truly respect you will accept and recognise why eventually. Here’s to healthy change and positively putting ourselves first this Christmas!šŸŽ„
