Most people don’t need to “calm down.”
They need to stop trying to control the uncontrollable.

Other people’s opinions.
Outcomes.
The future.
The past.

Anxiety thrives there.

Your power lives somewhere smaller:
your boundaries, your effort, your response.

Control the controllables.
Let the rest expose itself.

Therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about spotting the pattern.

As a CBT therapist, one of the most common things I hear is:
“I don’t understand why I keep doing this.”

Often, it’s not self-sabotage.
It’s a nervous system trying to protect you from an old wound.

That’s what we call a lifetrap.

Understanding the pattern is the first step toward changing it.

More on this in the next post.

They expected a reaction. They got a question instead.

When the past feels present.
When anger feels bigger.
When “I’m not safe” becomes your inner voice.

That might be PTSD, not weakness.

CBT helps your brain realise the danger is over.

Words, words and more words?!?!

Let’s be clear. This isn’t about someone having a bad day.

It’s not about a moment of frustration that’s acknowledged, repaired, and not repeated.

We’re talking about patterns.
Repeated anger that turns into name-calling, sarcasm, put-downs, or character attacks, followed by apologies but no real change.

Everyone gets angry.
Not everyone gets abusive.

Boundaries aren’t about punishment.
They’re about deciding, “This is not how I allow myself to be spoken to.”

At some point, it’s not the words that matter.
It’s the behaviour.

Do you struggle to say no?

CBT in 60 seconds. Well 69 second to be exact 🧐

This is not lying on a couch being told how to think.
It is learning how your mind actually works.

Example
You always say yes.
Extra work yes.
Favours yes.
Helping when you are exhausted yes.

The thought underneath
If I say no they will think I am selfish or stop liking me.

So you feel anxious and guilty.
You say yes anyway.
Then you feel overwhelmed resentful and annoyed at yourself.

CBT helps you spot that pattern and gently test it.
What happens if you say no just once.

Sorry I cannot this time.

No long explanation.
No over justifying.

And when the world does not end your brain learns something new.
I can have boundaries and still be a good person.

That is CBT.
Not positive thinking.
But changing the cycle that keeps you stuck
